I rarely have time to relax when I zip up to London. I usually dash from one appointment to the next, often ending up completely spent on the train home, too exhausted to even to utter a word. But this time.......I intended to indulge in "me time". My first stop was Chelsea market, a very dangerous place to be on an empty stomach. I walked away with two chocolate mini cupcakes with salted caramel frosting from Crumbs and Doilies, two sinful and truly decadent triple chocolate chip cookies as well as two portuguese custard egg tarts from Galeta. All before I even had my breakfast and first coffee of the day.

The Saatchi Gallery is always such a serene spot despite being smack in the middle of the busy King's Road shopping area. By this point, I'm kicking myself for lugging around a heavy camera when all I'm doing is snapping away with my smartphone.

Being a transplant from the Southern Hemisphere, I still find Christmas wreaths very fascinating. Only because I rarely come across one hanging on the door. I get the odd looks whenever I go a little crazy snapping away each time I see a wreath that appeals to me.

I popped into Anthropologie hoping to get hold of their snow globe bauble and what do you know, they're ALL sold-out! I didn't think tree decorations can be this popular. Drats. Darn. Double bugger.

Next order of the day - a leisurely lunch with W of Fauxionista at the Rose Bakery where we properly caught up. I saw Simon Doonan, the creative director at large of Barney's New York a few seats away. Being the thick skinned person that I am, I actually introduced myself.

We decided to hit Liberty for some Christmas shopping (okay, it was more like I dragged W into the store). It seemed like half of London had the same idea as we were all packed like canned sardines into a tiny space. The TV series - Liberty of London must've been a good PR move for the company.

These robins have got to be THE singularly most photographed lights in Oxford Circus. I seem to have lost the urge to stay up late so it's back on the train again to head home. Adieu London!
Beautiful pictures Marlene! Gimme those Manolo Blahnik's!!! :D

Love them too but the price tag was enough to make me feel rather faint.
DeleteI love your pictures! Those sweets look so delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mallory. Glad you like the pics.
DeleteI love these vignettes of my very favorite city in the world...sigh. You always take such beautiful photos, Marlene.
ReplyDeleteAlissa
Thank you, Alissa. It's not difficult to take pretty pictures when I'm surrounded by pretty things :)
DeleteI had a Portuguese custard tart from a local Portuguese cafe today. It was perfect. Have tried the huge cookies from Galeta before and they were very tasty. I love door wreaths; they are a tradition in the States.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to try their cronuts. I have no idea what they taste like.
DeleteI can't believe you took all those beautiful photos with your smartphone. Which one do you have, if you don't mind answering. It seems you had a great day!!!

Thank you, Cristina! I've got the Samsung Galaxy Note phone. I also use vscocam and snapseed to edit my photos.
DeleteGahh, these photos are so gorgeous. I'm dying a little over those first two food shots. It looks so good! I've seen a few people Instagram that same shot of the shoes! Obviously a super popular display! Love all your shots - sounds like a perfect trip into London! xx
ReplyDeleteI know Chelsea market isn't deemed all that cool by foodies but the food there is seriously good. There's always a seat on the benches and it's never so crowded that the stall owners don't have time to chat. I meant to catch up with Kit but it didn't happen in the end. Next time!
DeleteIs the second picture of cronuts? I can't imagine what those are like however I did try a duffin (cross between a doughnut and a muffin) yesterday at Starbucks. I cannot recommend personally :o(
ReplyDeleteAnd you sound like you had a wonderful day. And you really introduced yourself to the Barneys director? I've never even heard of him (but I do live in a bubble).
Google him and don't be surprised if you know him. Instead of a handshake, he fist bumped me. Odd but perhaps, it's what fashion people do????
DeleteI had a fantastic time hanging out with you and no, you didn't drag me anywhere! Can't wait to catch up again soon! :)
