Today I'm paying homage to my 2 favorite colors - black and grey.  I'm playing matchy-matchy with my surroundings and the ever present dark clouds.  My daily outfits have deteriorated, much like the weather outside. The truth is, I'm feeling rather meh lately about my outfits. Winter outfits just aren't pretty and glamorous.

I refused to be swayed by outfit photos featuring bare legs, high heels and summer outfits with snow in the background. I don't have a car where I can hop in to defrost. Most big cities in England aren't exactly car friendly....... meaning, I have to be gird my loins and bear the cold in whatever outfit I wore in the morning. Thankfully, it hasn't snowed over this side of the Atlantic ocean and it hasn't been overly cold. I could even dash about doing my Christmas shopping in flats and my toes are still intact. Tis a miracle indeed.

I've been trawling through the worldwide web in search of chic and comfortable winter outfit for inspiration in order to deter myself from living in my sweats permanently. I adore Miranda Kerr's head to toe black outfit but I doubt I can manage more than 2 steps in her Gianvito Rossi heels. A few weeks ago, I saw a popular UK blogger in her pencil thin heels as she wobbled about on the paved streets of London. My inept self felt infinitely better. *high five, sistah*

I'm still automatically drawn to black and grey. It's the French in me (I was French in my previous life). The two colors are classy, urbane, versatile and sophisticated (it's funny how one can find plenty of adjectives for positive reinforcements to convince oneself). And European (this doesn't include cities near the Mediterranean where colors rule. Oooooh my eyes hurt). So tell me, what outfits are you wearing at the moment? For those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, please refrain from speaking as envy has a way of rearing its angry head.

  1. I am wearing black & grey, alternating between 3 cashmere jumpers, 1 black, 1 dark grey and the other yes you guessed it pale grey..... jeans and black boots. Oh and when I feel like being slightly smarter my H&M ra ra skirt comes out. I too have been looking on blogs, Pinterest for inspiration I love your images you have chosen here..... in fact I love black and grey.

  2. I like black and grey too - even in the summer. But they look better in winter. I like the way Miranda Kerr wore them - with the leopard flats. Adds dimension.

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Coming from 'Southern Hemisphere' (hello!), I wore black and white most of the days too. Too much colour people here usually wore (think purple tudung with green satin baju kurung with colourful embroidery!). And the other day I was in a govn. department, I felt like I'm almost invisible! - I Ying

  4. I wear black and grey or black/white/grey all year long. It never fails! My favorite look right now is a black or grey blazer or IM tweed jacket, a thin turtleneck or other slim sweater or thick tee layer underneath and jeans du jour. And a scarf and maybe a beanie or wool hat. I Add whatever boot feels right or sometimes a leopard wedge or ballet flat. If it's cold at night, I swap the blazer for a thicker Jcrew field coat or my beloved Vince sweater coat. Like a blanket. Of course, it's black and grey, too!!

  5. Welll... I rarely wear black less grey at all. I like colours like I like life, I mean real coulour (sorry no offense) as I am not afraid of them and feel confident enough. My outfit these last years during winter is a cashmere jumper (orange, red, rapsberry pink, green ... but NOT blue) with a silk tee shirt underneath, velvet or wool skirt (I know I tend to wear skirts when its cold and trousers when its hot... don't ask), fancy and warm tights, velvet or wool jacket and a coat of course, but not black (do not have a black coat anyway). I know colours are not classy, aren't they? And I am french, I am well?!! But for the life of me I can not understand this -stupid- infatuation of the french for the no colours (say grey, black, taupe, navy... erk!). I do not think that wearing colours is not being classy or elegant or else: who said that? All right, I cheat: I have professional outfit that actually are black or grey (skirts and jackets) but I am never all in black or grey, too depressing for me.

    1. I think it's wonderful that you love colors. I can only speak for myself. I've never been drawn to bright colors but then again, it's a very personal choice which is usually a reflection of one's personality.

  6. I have the feeling eveange66 is not going to like my answer :)
I would add navy and forest green in addition to black and grey. At the moment I tend to wear blouses (neutral colors) or sweaters with skinny jeans and a pair of low boots (very simple, flat) or a pair of chelsea boots. And a nice coat that looks like a cashmere one (it is not) and a cashmere scarf in navy or grey and of course eyeliner (cannot leave the house without it)! Oh, I'm French by the way ;)

    1. Navy and forest green are a beautiful combination too. Why didn't I think of that too??! I've been thinking of getting a pair of chelsea boots. Sleek and polished. Loving your outfit.

  7. This is the outfit I was sporting this morning. Very fetching, no? :)

It was -7°C. And my dog likes to get her peepees in between 6 and 7 am. The only reason I haven't busted out my snow boots is because it hasn't snowed yet.

Yeah I'm kinda sick of winter already and it hasn't even started yet.

I do have a lovely navy peacoat but it's languishing in the closet, because even though it's 80% wool, yeah... not happening. When I do have to go in public proper, parka all the way. Plus scarves, gloves, beanies, thickest sweaters and as many layers I can put on and still be able to bend my arms :)

    3. Thank you for looking! I actually found it :-) It's Rag & Bone. So far I've found it in navy and this cool greenish gray leather, but it's grey I want!

  9. I'm trying to break out of the habit of the black and greys but like they say - it's a hard habit to break. I even went so far as to buy a Christmas sweatshirt but now backing down. I am a coward. I can't say I'm scared of colours but I look more myself in a more subdued palate. I love picture 3 not for what she is wearing but that wonderful expression on Miranda Kerrs' son's face.
