Outfit: Helmut Lang coat (similar at 60% off), Petit Bateau top, The Kooples sweatpants, New Balance 420 sneakers
I didn't look like a drowned rat for the first time in days. Notice that warm glow behind me? Yup, it's that elusive thing, otherwise known as THE SUN. Rarely seen, highly coveted. Just like an Hermes bag. I was thrilled to discard my hoodie (I've got that whole chav look down pat these days) and pulled out my matrix Helmut Lang coat. Every time I wear it out, I feel like I'm channelling Keanu Reeves in his long black leather coat doing his martial art moves in slow motion. Totally cool (and vapid explanation). It's definitely one of my best buys from last year (75% off! Woohoooo!). It's so thick and padded that I normally just wear a thin layer underneath despite the temperature hovering between 5˚C - 8˚C outside.
Both the husband and Lil L wondered why I was so dressed up just heading out to drop her off at her friend's. That's the beauty of a statement coat. It jazzes up the outfit a tad. Oh well. It worked until they noticed that I was actually wearing my old sweatshirt and sweatpants underneath. Oops. I can't be arsed to change out of my comfy clothes in the weekend (actually, make that the entire week).
Just in case you're wondering, I'm so enthused about my New Balance sneakers that I bought Lil L a pair too. I've been trying to get the husband into the latest trendy groovy thing but he's not convinced. Bummer.

DeleteA statement coat covers a multitude of fashion 'sins' (much as a fedora covers up the bad hair days!) I have been known to put mine over pjs (bottoms tucked into boots) togo out for a walk to the shops, so you look positively dressed up here! Susan, London.

ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm starting to think it's fairly common to throw a coat over PJs now. I haven't done that. Yet. I'm so darn proud of myself for having introduced a single color into my wardrobe :P
DeleteLil L's sneakers look great, Miss 9 and Patrick went shopping for shoes over the weekend and she was so disappointed because she had her heart set on a pair of NB sneakers but they didn't have her size. I'm going to have a look online to see if we can find the pair she wanted. And winter coats are what I need to be investing in. I love the sound of yours, it would be a real treat to be able to wear only a thin layer and then have a beautiful and warm coat on top!
ReplyDeleteNBs are so popular that they just flew out the store the minute they arrive. Don't forget to size up or two though. Dunedin can get really damp and cold. Kind of reminds me of England really.

ReplyDeleteBought me some NB but had to go for 410 as the only 420 available here in my size were men's version or colours off my aesthetic.
Anyway, liking my 410s, they are very flat and slim line so look great with skinnies and THAT Zara coat .
My first love is definitely the 410 but too bad ALL the smaller sizes were sold out. Lucky you for being able to nab a pair. I'm still beating myself up for not getting the other grey Zara coat. I mean, £25?!!
