It's been nearly a year since I decided to show my face on the blog but I still feel incredibly awkward in front of the camera. Let me give you a bit of background on this photo. I'd just spent the morning with 2 friends. It's a beautiful day and we've had a rip roaring time chatting about anything and everything. I handed one of them my camera to snap a photo. Either she was possessed by a paparazzo spirit or the excitement of using a badass camera got the better of her, she managed to shoot dozens of photos in 2 minutes. There were a few of me screaming STOOOOOOOOPPP - mouth agape, wide eyed while trying to cover my face simultaneously .......... I can now empathize with celebrities when they're papped.

I was elated to nab the last turtleneck cable knit sweater from Zara. I did the victory lap around my lounge which took all of 5 seconds, high fived virtual people and let out a war cry. I never said that turning 40 meant I'd matured. The holy grail 100% cotton sweater which I’ve been searching high and low for cost a mere £26. Though it's now sold out, Uniqlo does an equally good cashmere version for £59.90. It's been getting colder by the day and a chunky turtleneck sweater couldn't have arrived at a better time.
I love all the street style looks you have posted, however, whenever I try to emulate the look (esp cable knit) I'm very disappointed... I feel and probably look about 2 sizes bigger :(
ReplyDeleteOh, I couldn't take a photo sideways. It'll make me look like I'm pregnant. The problem is we have boobs.
DeleteWAIT A MINUTE. My jaw has literally dropped and is resting on my desk... did you say you're 40?! I'm guessing you hit the wrong button and meant to type 20 because I SWEAR that is how old you look. If this is true that you are actually 40 please tell me how you look so good. Are you drinking from a magical fountain? If so, how much do I need to pay you to get a bottle?
ReplyDeleteOkay, on a separate note. This outfit looks perfect on you. Totally all about the big turtleneck meets boyfriends jeans combo. So laid back and effortless yet pulled together. Perfecto.
xx
Jen, I'm going to copy and paste this comment and print it out. Yes. My vain self will be able to eyeball your words EVERY single morning, especially on days when I've discovered my jowls have drooped. Yet again.
DeleteLol at the victory dance - I've done that...thought it was excessive but now I'm proud as I'm in good company! Great outfit - looking cool and about 23 yo.
ReplyDeleteBut I'd LOVE to see some of the out-takes....g'wan, g'wan...give us a giggle! Ax
I HAD to do the victory dance. Insane but yes, it'd taken me ages to find it. As for the photo shoot. Take 3 hyper ladies out and it gets a bit crazy.
DeleteLove it!!! Nice deal, too! I'm glad I saved all of my turtlenecks now!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see your closet one day!
DeleteI LOVE a good polo neck - I have a couple of the Boden Off Duty jumpers which are so light and comfy to wear, yet lovely and warm. You look radiant in that first photo! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joanna. Haha....not sure about the radiant part. I can thank the good lighting for that.
DeleteI would love to wear a chunky jumper but with my boobs I look two sizes bigger..... You look great as ever! I am glad your friend Papped you, love to see your outfits! I have just invested in a cashmere from pure collection in the sale...... winter still has along way to go.
ReplyDeleteOther than straight on, most of my photos made me look like I'd put on an extra 10 kgs. I've just tried on a cashmere sweater. Love! Thinking of going back to get it.
DeleteLove love your outfit!! You look fantastic!! I too have been breaking out my turtleneck sweaters...its been soo cold here. I forgot how much I love them.
ReplyDeleteBest, Mree
Aw...thank you. Yikes! I've read about how cold it is over at your end. Crazy! -20˚C!
DeleteI've worked out that I can't look at a camera straight on if it's pointing in my direction. I go all stupid and self conscious. So no hope for me.
ReplyDeleteBut good find on the cream cable turtleneck.I do the victory dance too :o) when I score!
Oh, that victory lap is absolutely necessary. I mean £26!!
DeleteI have to completely agree with Jen - I hope that when I'm 40 I look half as good as you do!
ReplyDeleteAs for the turtleneck, yours looks fantastic - I've never been big on turtlenecks (I used to have a larger chest, almost DD) as they used to make me look even bustier, although you make pulling it off seem easy
That's really sweet of you, Jamie-Lee! I try not too close to the mirror. Everyone looks line free from a distance :P
DeleteYou look fantastic! I must thank you by the way. Your posts about Uniqlo convinced me I had to go last October in London. I got some great stuff that I look forward to wearing more when winter hits here. Now that I know I'm an XS, I wonder if I could shop online from here? Or do their sizes tend to vary from season to season?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think I've practically converted my entire family to Uniqlo. They really do basics well. Their sizing is generally very consistent. I have friends who'd set up a address forwarding account in the UK. Uniqlo doesn't ship outside of the UK at the moment but you can have them shipped to you. I wear an S but I tend to order a couple of sizes up for a more slouchy look.
DeleteMarlene, you look effortless and gorgeous! Love this look!
