Zara blazer   /  Isabel Marant pour H&M lace top  /  Hermes belt  /  Zara boyfriend jeans  / Marni sandals (similar here) /  Chanel WOC  /  Hermes Cape Cod watch

Just so you know, I'm very tempted to change my blog name to AddictionToBoyfriendJeans.com. So cast your eyes away from my ubiquitous jeans which are permanently attached to my legs. Lately, I've been drawn to lace tops. Yes, me the tomboy. With a closet no wider than half of my arm span, it's an easy guess that I'll be wearing the same few outfits on many occasions. Anything that's too obvious will be ........ an invitation for questions like "ooooh, that must be your favorite/only top?"

My excuse is that monochromatic lace tops are still eye-catching but equally subtle and quietly elegant without drawing unnecessary attention to the wearer. I've dipped my tippy toes into the textile print pool on many occasions. Perhaps it's my personality but I'm still deathly scared of wearing colors, particularly if it's too loud.

Okay, this may sound a little weird AND a contradiction but I like lace tops that aren't too sheer and delicate. Otherwise, it screams lingerie or evening wear. Anything that's too delicate will probably be ripped to shreds around kids and dogs. I find lace tops, if chosen well, can be versatile. It's a little like wearing a t-shirt but a dressier version. What are your thoughts on lace?

pssssst....I'm going to return the Isabel Marant pour H&M beaded jacket (size EU36/UK10 and £199.99 + paypal fees and postage) as it's just a tad too small for me. Let me know if you want it. UK and E.U only.

  1. Wish I had grabbed that top - divine! And I'm a bf jean addict, too!

  2. What is the sizing like on the lace top? Although I hate to pay ebay prices, I really like it!

    1. The top is really designed for someone who has a small bust. I'm not top heavy but I felt more comfortable in a UK 14. I also prefer a slouchier fit . I've seen some pretty good deals on eBay. Who knows? You may just nab one at retail price.

  3. I think it's great - you've found a cut or style that you like and you're sticking with it. No harm in that! The lace top looks to be quite good quality - it was one of th pieces I liked but I thought the price was a little high?

    1. The embroidery is made of 100% cotton and it's relatively thick. I guess that's why they charge a bit more.

  4. LOVE that top - gorgeous on you. Works so well with the boyfriend jeans as they dress it down a bit. Would love the IM jacket but it's not going to happen. A new phone is next on the wish list. Hope you're having a good week Marlene xx

    1. I'm pretty bummed about the jacket too. Yup, a phone is more important. Can't argue about that.

  5. That lace top looks great on you! I have tried lace before but I haven't found one I really like. Been hard to find one that is made of the right quality.

    1. Thanks, Missone! I've found that most lace tops seem to be made out of cheap synthetic material that actually scratches the skin. They become even more stiff after a couple of washes.

  6. Absolutely beautiful top Marlene. You are so right about the sheerness problem. I have a lace top which I fell in love with but have to wear something underneath. Don't need to show that much off!

I have to say I really loved your review on all of the Isabel Marant H&M items. We don't have H&M in Australia yet so getting a hold of things is difficult so it's really good to know that the trouble to get a hold of things would be worth while.

PS - LOVE your boyfriend jeans and I never tire of your looks with them. They are practical and you make chic outfits all the time. Definitely inspiring and I love that your blog is realistic and 'real'. I have a weakness for boyfriend jeans myself too

    1. I'm deeply envious of your ever changing style where you mix and match so effortlessly. That's really sweet of you to say so. Hah! one of these days, I should show more realistic outfits. Like sweats and more sweats!

  7. It's lovely on you and I like the fact that it's a good weight cotton lace which usually makes it all look that much more expensive and nicer. Infact, it's so nice, I managed to order one today when some stock came back on line. There's a part of me which wants to not like it and hope that it doesn't fit - I have bought enough this month.

    1. Bet you'll like it!!! I thought the quality will be rubbish and I'm allergic to most lace anyway. The fabric is so soft. Okay, okay, I'll stop now.

  10. You look lovely! I agree about the boyf jeans! I was glued into mine & have only just begun to break free! I'd like a slimmer fitting pair & I'm on the hunt for some then I can glue myself into them for a few months too! The wee Chanel is just gorgeous! Ax

    1. I swear Zara makes the best boyfriend jeans out there. I don't mind ripped as long as they patch it inside which Zara does. They came up with the newer and slimmer boyfriend jeans now. I think they're £29.99. Bargain.

  11. I am with you on the boyfriends. I haven't stopped wearing mine either...but that may be because they are the only ones that really fit me right now post baby;) I am also quite jealous of your marant score. It's a lovely top and works perfectly with the slouchy denim. Well played!

    1. Noelani, at least you have an excuse. 7 years post baby, I'm still attached to my boyfriend jeans!

  12. Hey, do you just slash the chain into the woc, or "illegally modified" the chain with some clasp?
I got the clobber to cut the chain and attached a clasp so that I can just remove the chain easily, but couldn't bear to do to another more expensive woc.

    1. Nope, I just tuck the chain inside the bag. I don't ever modify designer bags particularly ones from Chanel, Hermes or even Louis Vuitton as it devalues the bags.

  13. Marlene!! You look beautiful! I LOVE the lace top with the BF jeans! Can we BOTH change our blog names to Addictedtoboyfriendjeans.com? Especially since we are addicted to the same pair?!?! Okay, I am totally inspired and you may see something similar to this on the blog soon!!
