The long awaited warm summer that we're having right now is the reason why I'm spending less time on the internet. I'm trying to absorb as much natural vitamin D as possible because it may all disappear in a blink of an eye. As you can tell, I've completely immersed myself in the British culture because all I ever talk about is the weather. Blah blah blah...rain..... blah blah blah.... sunshine ..... blah ..... etc etc.
The annual Hat Fair has arrived with 40 000 people descending upon the small city center over the weekend. Performances have gotten so professional that there were caravans, massive looking speakers, zip wires, men in make up (!!) etc all in the name of entertainment. The hat is then passed around the audience for donations, thus the term Hat Fair. You've got the normal stuff which are fairly benign and so so to the...........

........ REALLY REALLY weird. Like the wannabe cowboy dude from Oregon (U.S) who took a while to warm up to the audience (not the other way round) or the levitating beer drinking fake yogi or the cross dresser who plonked himself, I mean herself in the middle of High St and managed the difficult feat of scaring most of the locals away on a lovely sunny day. There was even a vegetable nursery where you could bottle feed a pineapple or melon.

Lil L and I decided to escape the suffocating crowd and joined our friends by the river. The girls ran around chasing each other and wading into the shallow river to catch fish while the moms catch up. All I can say is England IS heaven on earth especially when the sun's shining.
England in the sunshine is spectacular. But aren't most places? But the juxtaposition of English greenery and blazing blue skies is lush and can't be beat. Love the balloon Elmo! Now there's a challenge - to try making one of those!
ReplyDeleteThat last paragraph says it all, I am lapping it up.
ReplyDeleteIncredibly lovely photos like always Marlene. You always capture such a great essence of all that you photograph. Both Lil L are her friend look so cute in their little summer outfits. Sweet pics. :)

Aww these are hilarious. I really hope that people didn't have to pay for the privilege of feeding fruit!

interesting, never seen some of the "displays" at the part of my world.
ReplyDeleteCan I know what is fed to the fruits? And how did that fake-yogi-person "float"?
I think the bottle contained a water/soil mixture. I'd love to find out what the so called yogi guy did to give the illusion that he was floating on air.
DeleteGreat pics! Makes me want to move to England right now! I need some of that green!
ReplyDeleteLove your Lil L's outfit with the baseball cap! It shouldn't come as a suprise really how stylish and cute your daughter is!
*AMAZING* photography again
ReplyDeleteLove Britain in the sunshine
