Outfit: Chanel tweed jacket, Alexander Wang t-shirt, Chanel glasses, Chanel timeless clutch, Zara boyfriend jeans and Louboutin peep toe heels (similar here).

Looking at the first photo, you're probably fooled into thinking that spring has finally arrived here in the Northern Hemisphere. Hah! The weather forecast for April is rain, rain and more rain with the temperature hovering around the single digit (celsius).  I wanted to cheer myself up by wearing a spring jacket. It didn't matter I was drenched thanks to the continuous downpour (noticed my sleeked back sexy hairstyle?) and I was seriously under-dressed while my friend, Christy who was taking my photos was all wrapped up nice and cozy in a thick woolen coat. Oh well, at least I was wearing a Chanel tweed jacket albeit for a brief moment just to remind myself that spring time still exists in my part of the world.

I've harbored a decade long obsession with Chanel jackets. It all started with their 2.55 flap which is probably on the top of most women's wish list. One day, out of the blue, I was invited to a private Chanel fashion show. There were no more than a handful of guests in a luxurious house located in one of the most exclusive suburbs in Auckland. The models were wearing the most exclusive RTW Fall/Winter collection. It wasn't like a madhouse compared to the circus that ensues during LFW or NYFW these. The models walked up to the guests and explained about the fabrics. We touched and oohed and aahed over the exquisite workmanship. I fell in love with Chanel RTW that day despite not being able to afford it.

Furthermore, the ladylike tailored jackets are the antithesis of my tomboyish and clumsy self. Now that I'm older and am happier to throw caution to the wind, I prefer to pair mine with ripped jeans and a pair of badass heels but until such time I find those said shoes, I'm going to stick to the painful Louboutins. I love that you could alter a Chanel jacket a couple of sizes up or down and there's the little chain that runs along the hem so that the jacket drapes better. Over the years, I was lucky to find vintage Chanel jackets in thrift and consignment shops whenever I traveled. To my regret, I've gotten rid of all of them years ago thinking that they were too "vintage". I still dream of finding THE perfect Chanel black jacket. One day........  How do you wear your tweed jackets? Better still, do share and wax lyrical about any Chanel jackets you own. There's nothing better than raiding someone's amazing wardrobe - virtually.

  1. I don't own any Chanel jackets... yet! ;) I pair my tweed-like jacket with dresses as well as jeans. I think it's a great versatile piece that can be dressed up or down. :)

Also, thanks for the sacrifice to get the pics in the rain! ;) It snowed here earlier. :(

  2. I'd love to wax lyrical with you on Chanel jackets but sadly I don't possess one. Maybe one day. I saw an excellent piece on how a fashion editor was given loan to a black Chanel jacket for a week and to wear it in different ways - she did say the response to it was amazing and she felt in a different league wearing it. Can a garment really do that is what I want to know?

    1. Once you hold a Chanel jacket...it's just so different even with an Isabel Marant jacket. The workmanship is out of this world. Hubby always tells me off when I eyeball handbags because comparing the rest to Hermes or Loewe is like comparing apples and pears.

    2. Hermes and Loewe above Chanel in the handbag stakes IYO? x

    3. I think the workmanship of Loewe bags is exquisite. Not on par with Hermes but still for the price of a LV but far superior. I've heard murmurs of how Chanel bags aren't what they used to be. I agree. They're good but not good enough for me to justify £3K for a flap.

  3. Ah! I just saw your comment, you are right that great minds think alike :) I love your jacket and always love looking at the chain. My husband always asks why no Chanel jackets seem to be able to be buttoned LOL - I always say that is just the style! Can yours be buttoned comfortably?

    1. This was a larger size and I had it altered down to fit my waist. I can button it up pretty comfortably but it makes me look like I'm ready for a high society luncheon. Really??! I thought yours can be buttoned up? My other ones that I'd gotten rid of (to my regret) can all be buttoned up.

  4. Yours looks great worn like that, I gave mine away, it was a different style and couldn't be altered and was way to small, I was bursting out of it.

    1. Hahaha.... maybe you bought a size too small. I know the armholes are always cut pretty narrow. And Karl Lagerfeld likes to pretend that women have no boobs. I tried on a boucle cardigan like jacket at Chane recently. I normally wear a 38 but the 36 was so roomy. And it wasn't because I'd lost weight - probably gained MORE weight to make up for loss time (i.e. Christmas flu).

  5. Katherine - ha, I couldn't button mine or use my arms!

  8. Excellent look. I just wrote about pairing jackets with jeans to go from street wear to business casual. (Scheduled for this afternoon.) Your outfit nails it.

Cool Marquee function at the bottom of the post. How did you get it to work?

    1. Thanks so much! I'm so techno jargon illiterate. Do you mean the photos of the jackets below the post? If that's what you mean, the html code is provided by the affiliate.

  9. I had written this whole long comment, and now it's gone grr I hate when blogger does that! Anyway, I suppose the crux of what I was saying is that the jacket looks so relevant, and not dated whatsoever. A shame you got rid of your other ones x

  12. Absolutely love this tweed jacket. And I love it with the ripped jeans. I didn't know about the chain on Chanel jackets... actually come to think of it, I really don't know much about them besides they are beautiful and that I wish I had one, haha. :)

  14. Darling, I am enjoying sunny Miami but can't brag about any Chanel jacket. Maybe one day?! So you might be drenched, but at least you have a fab Chanel jacket, which you wear nicely with your tomboyish jeans. If I had one, I would probably wear it with black skinny jeans and cool pumps.

  15. i love the blues of the jacket up close. i don't think i can make the chanel tweed work on me but an all-black version like you said sounds very promising...

  16. I don't own any Chanel jacket..

Yours is such a pretty jacket and you look great! I used to have many tweed jackets imported from Korea (beautifully cut) but sold them all since they look simply too formal for me.

Last year, I bought a black one for my sister's wedding and it eventually went to my grandma..haha!

  17. Oh how I would love to own a Chanel jacket, yours is gorgeous and hopefully we will get some spring like days so that you can make full of advantage of showing this beauty off to the world! x

  22. Love how you've styled this with slouchy white tee and jeans and nude shoes. I also love how this jacket has a collar, think that's much more flexible and younger than the boxy ones which just have an open neck. You look fantastic!

    1. Thanks, Jody. I've tried the traditional boucle but it didn't work all that well on me. Perhaps it was just that particular jacket. Oh well, I'd love to buy one at full retail price but whoa! the cost was eye watering.

  23. Love the way you styled the jacket! A fabulous Chanel tweed jacket is at THE very top of my wishlist. I'm intrigued about you finding them at them at consignment shops and thrift shops. I mean, who would want to get rid of one? If you ever come across one in my size I'm love to know about it!

    1. You wouldn't believe it. Hit the thrift shops in the most exclusive suburbs. I was told after seeing a HUGE drop off of discarded Chanel suits that some of the society women were seen in theirs before and they're no longer deemed appropriate for their next public outing.

  24. I'm an accessories girl - where's the close up of the Loub's and Handbag??!! That jacket looks amazing on you though, would love to own one but after I've found some more Chanel Handbags (from a Charity shop of course!). Trea and I have just been chatting about Louboutin's - what's your opinion on them - worth it? DO the soles scratch badly and need re-painting fairly quickly? x

    1. Natalie, I'm giving up on Louboutins. They hurt. So. Bad. You can always have protective soles attached. I've bought, sold, bought, sold. I've tried and tried for 6 years now and I've decided that Louboutin heels just don't love me. There's a fabulous cobbler in London who does mostly Louboutins. He resoled and rejuvenated my Hermes boots to perfection

  27. I love your Chanel jacket! Unfortunately, I don't own one. I was obsessed with Chanel jackets a few years ago and almost wanted to save up for one, but decided that I simply will have to keep on dreaming and maybe when I am all grown up I might purchase the perfect black one! :)

  28. I dream of owning a Chanel jacket someday. As you say, it's when you learn how a luxurious piece is made that you get emotionally attached to it as you realize all the work and thought that goes in it. Chanel released a video for the little black jacket to support its exhibition of the same name and it had that effect on me.

  29. Love your Chanel jacket! The Chanel jacket is truly such a luxurious piece. I love all the thought and precision that goes into them- so beautiful. I loved the Black Jacket exhibition- so insightful and inspiring. I also had a chance to visit the atelier and watch the jackets being put together by hand- it's an experience that I will never forget.

Your jacket is lovely. I love the colors. It reminds me of the one you sold last year- I loved that one as well. My Chanel jackets are very precious to me, as they were passed on to me from my mother and grandmother. I love Chanel's tweeds and contrary to what a lot of people think I don't find them matronly at all.
