Taking a break from fashion

I'm all fashioned out at the moment after being bombarded with hundreds of runway photos. Don't get me wrong. I like fashion like most gals out there but there comes a saturation point where you don't want to see another report where the fashion show is dissected like a science experiment.

So.....I'm chillin' out and taking a break just for a couple of days. It's Chinese New Year at the moment so it's been fun hanging out with fellow emigrant orphans (a term to describe those of us who have NO family members in the UK) from Borneo, slurping long life noodles (a Fuzhou tradition) while reminiscing about how we used to celebrate Chinese New Year back in Asia. It was a happy time filled with firecrackers, lion dance and hong baos (red packets). Gong Xi Fa Cai and 新年快乐!

  1. What beautiful photos! I love the colors. Happy new year! I was thinking about how we celebrate in Fiji too. My brother has been busy with the lion and dragon dances. I wish I were in Fiji (my mum is part Chinese,so we've always celebrated) :)

  3. Gong Xi Fa Cai, Marlene :) I'm SO missing the atmosphere back in Kuching. Being orphaned here, I know no other Asian families so CNY is usually a small, quiet affair with the five of us enjoying a simple dinner :) I miss the deafening fire crackers, looking at people at the mahjong tables, exchanging oranges, eating so much until I can barely roll home, the cookies, the keropok with achar, the bakpoh (yums) and, yes, I even miss dolling out angpows. Ah well, it is what it is, huh?

  4. Happy new year Marlene! It's been a while since I last stopped by, just checking in to say hi. Hope you've been having some fantastic new year feasts and family time. The hubby and I celebrated the other night with a traditional 4 hour long eatfest haha. Beautiful photos, what glorious sunlight you've been having.

  6. I know how you feel! I always try & catch up with the shows at the end of each day & usually enjoy it, but this year is seems like a bit of a chore! I think it's because I'm finding NYFW in general quite boring this year, only a few shows have really stuck out.
Anyway... Hope you have a nice little break & Happy Chinese New Year! :)

  8. Happy Chinese New Year! Those are some beautiful, beautiful pictures! And I feel the same about fashion right now, I get inspired by it still and am loving some trends, but I am happy with the clothes that I have, planning to downsize, in fact and don`t really have wishes to change things currently.

  9. Gong Hei Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year. Hey, I'm the same. In all honesty, I quite often avoid looking at the new collections for that very reason, and also to avoid disappointment (which has been a reoccurence as of late with some of my fave designers)
