Hat Affair

Monday 12 December 2011
I have a tiny head which makes buying a hat that fits a rather frustrating experience. However, after months of searching, I managed to find THE one. Since then my love affair with hats raged unabatedly. I wanted another and another and another. It's like my Hermes shawls addiction or Isabel Marant addiction. My rationale is that these things are far cheaper than cars. So there!

It didn't help looking at fellow blogger, Fashion and Frank's amazing hat collection which made me turn green with envy. I've been eyeing on two of hers which will remain on my splurge list for now. Since my budget doesn't go beyond £100 a hat, the chosen ones on my steal list will do.

I'm amazed at how many compliments I get from friends and acquaintances when I'm out and about in my normal attire but the difference is I plonked a hat on my head. I went from bleh to chic in a nanosecond.

  1. Great post! I've been eyeing the first one from your post - Maison Michel one. But need to justify it price wise :)

But for now, I am thinking of a reasonable alternative from Reiss - http://www.reissonline.com/shop/womens/accessories/hats/edie/toffee/

It doesn't look like much in the picture, but I tried it on in-store and it looks great!

  3. Mona, it's really reasonably priced! I haven't checked out Reiss for a long time. You're lucky you can wear any hats off the rack. Most retailers don't bother stocking XS.

chicology, have a look at http://christys-hats.com/. They are a very old company (almost 240 years old) and hand makes all their hats. Prices are very reasonable. They custom make and also sell very small sizes. I bought one from them for £30 (last photo) but they make brilliant trilbys for summer.

  4. I, too, have a tiny head. I once nearly bought a hat made for toddlers because it fit so well, but had to pass on principle. Haha. Glad you've found some winners. I bet you look fab in them. :)

  6. Natalie, I couldn't stop laughing when I read your comment!! I think I'd pass too. There's no way I want to be seen buying a toddler's hat for myself. I once purchased a Stella McCartney for Gap knitted hat. The only consolation was that it was for a 10 year old girl.

Fashion and Frank, better large than small! I adore both the Gucci and Maison Michel hats. You wear them so well too.

  7. I have the opposite problem! A big ass head! LOL I'm loving that Gucci! I remember when it was on the runway. So sharp! I don't even want to look at the price tag. I wear hats well, but I can't wear cheap ones...because of my big head... unless i want a imprint on my forehead and a headache. LOL

  9. Hi ^^ I'm glad the shoes worked out for you. I completely agree! The shoes are such great quality that it'd be silly to buy the brand name ones that don't fit and cost more when we have such a better alternative options. And what I love about it is that they don't "claim" to be the brands that the styles are inspired from. ^^

I've been really wanting a new hat too! One of those felt ones that are floppy. And i totally agree! Wearing a hate is like wearing a statement piece clothing item! it adds so much more edge. <3
