I had a chance to pop into Matches Fashion's townhouse on Welbeck St to check out their newest A/W 2013 collection. I headed straight for the coats, jackets, shoes and accessories. We haven't had a proper summer in 2 years so stocking up on summer clothes seems rather pointless. Instead, I've been drawn to outerwear which is something I wear a lot of. In fact, my summer dresses are stuffed right to the back of my drawers that it's become a bit of out of sight, out of mind kind of thing.

I was fascinated by these Mark Cross bags, particularly the blue trunk which is aptly named Grace as it was a favorite of Grace Kelly as well as Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Fitzgeralds were close friends of Gerald and Sara Murphy, previous owners of Mark Cross who were also the inspiration behind the author's book "Tender is the night". Mark Cross has been relaunched with a bang three years ago but the American luxury leather purveyor was been around since 1845 till its closure in 1997.

You've had the ubiquitous Kitty cat but now Charlotte Olympia has created yet another eye catching flats - the owl along with a quirky perspex clutch "Book of Spells" which I have no doubt will become a bestseller.

I had an interesting chat with the ladies at Matches Fashion. Catchy heels, towering heels, stiletto heels... but the ones that fly right out of the door are low to mid heels. Shoe designers are finally listening to women. We want gorgeous heels that we can actually walk in evidenced in the photo above. I'm fascinated by Alex's arm swag. I'm in love with her double tour Hermes bracelets. LOVE!
It'll be fab if you could shift some of the heat over here. We're freezing and it's spring!
ReplyDeleteI am actually in love with the Grace bag! Actual love! I have been looking for a bag like that forever and the colour is absolutely gorgeous. Now if only I had £1,650 to spare. :(
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a very unique bag. Very well made which has a retro feel. Yup....£1650 is a lot of money!
DeleteWow, the shoes look beautiful (who makes the zig zag and check ones??) - I can imagine I'll probably attempt to hunt down those owl flats considering how much wear my kitties get. Did you spot anything you'll be keeping an eye out for?

The zig zags are by Nicholas Kirkwood. His shoes are bold and eye catching. Too bad, he doesn't make them any smaller than 35. I like Charlotte Olympia's owl flats and perspex clutch. Both are so unique.
DeleteNice photos Marlene! I'm really liking all the shoes, especially those heels below the grey coat. :)

You will totally rock in them, T. Alas, I'll have to stick to something more manageable for myself.
DeleteI couldn't agree more...mid heels are the way forward. p.s. Have you jumped a year or do you mean AW13? xx
ReplyDeleteNope, this is next year's A/W collection. The fashion week features collection a year ahead.
DeleteDoh!! Actually, you're right. You're allowed to pelt me with rotten eggs. It IS AW13. I've made all the relevant changes now. Sigh. Brain meltdown!
DeleteI'm absolutely in love with so many items in this post! Wanting them now though :) That grey coat is exactly what I've been searching for. The 'book of spells' clutch is an absolutely cute accessory. I think I need to save for the upcoming season! Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteDo you know, I am so pleased to hear that women are adopting the lower heels and those are the ones selling best.
ReplyDeleteAnd I adore the Charlotte Olympia owl flats - I'm not a great one for cute stuff but I can do owls especially Charlotte Olympia owls.
Looks promising what awaits us for the next A/W season! I wish there would be a day that I could say enough is enough, but seeing all these beautiful items, I just want more... :s
ReplyDeleteThose Mark Cross bags are beautiful and the Murphys were a fascinating couple and terrific patrons of the arts, supporting Hemingway, Fitz, etc. You can read about them in Amanda Vaill's brilliant book, "Everybody was so young".
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely photos though my eyes can't get enough of the H bracelets.

I love that you spotlighted Mark Cross. In my opinion they are just as well-made as Hermes or Loewe and so beautiful. My grandmother and mom have a couple that have been passed onto me. I collect trunks- so one of my grandmother's Grace bags sits on my vanity. It was a gift from her father on her first solo international trip- unheard of in those times.
ReplyDeleteThe Murphy's were so ahead of their time. They bankrolled a lot of the lost generation. Patrons of the arts and artists in their own right, philanthropists and so stylish. I love how they pop up as fictional characters in Hemingway and Dos Passos' works. And as Ammu said "Everybody Was So Young" is brilliant and so well researched.
I saw the owl flats on your IG and then I google search forthem, and it led me back to you (your blog). LOL.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't so into the kitty flats (except for Garfield. I'm no fan of cats/kitty) but the owl ones got me. Can I say it's your fault really? :)
They invited me, too, but I couldn't make it.... :( In a way I am glad because I'd probably find myself hugging those coats and crying over the bags and shoes. :) So beautiful! x
