Street-style photography exploded into the scene, thanks to Scott Schuman aka The Sartorialist taking it to the next level. Bill Cunningham, the original street-style photographer has always insisted on being an independent agent so that his work isn't controlled by anyone. I thought it's fitting that I feature street-style blogs today as it's the first day of London Fashion Week over here.
Perhaps I'm not a young girl in my early 20s anymore or that my priorities have shifted beyond fashion after becoming a mom, I find it difficult to relate to endless photos of skinny models who have barely left their teens. I want to be inspired by real women who perhaps may not have a picture perfect face or body but they're comfortable in their skin, fine lines and all and dress to suit themselves. These are 3 of the street-style photographers that I personally love and follow. Garance Dore, Vanessa Jackman and Yvan Rodic, thank you for keeping it real!

ReplyDeleteI met Scott aka The Sartorialist when we were in Paris - he was roaming the streets with his camera and walked up behind my husband who was taking a photo of me. I got a photo with Scott.... ummmm he's short! Vanessa Jackman is an Aussie so I love seeing her get mentioned!

Looking so much online for photos of girls wearing IM, I'm just constantly being flooded with thin, white women, and it's made me feel not that great about myself at times like I should be skinnier or my nose should be straighter, etc. I've been starting to take photos of other girls in my town on my other blog because I wanted to represent more diversity in the blog world. I also wanted to create inspiration for myself too. Garance is definitely someone I look up to. If you get a chance, check out the girl I post on Sunday (really proud of my photo and her!).
