I've been on the hunt for winter clothes for the past month. My wardrobe is sadly lacking in sweaters. I've been wearing the same Uniqlo and Zadig & Voltaire sweaters for the last two years. While I'm pleased that I'm getting plenty of mileage out of my meager winter clothes, it's time to branch out a little. I flip flopped between plain basics and statement jumpers for a more contemporary and edgy vibe.
I've worn synthetic materials but for the most part, I've stuck with natural fibers. Call it an obsessive compulsion but I can't make myself buy any food without checking the list of ingredients nor purchase a piece of clothing without looking at the fabric content tag either. While a few are well made, most have not lasted the distance when compared to clothes made of pure or a higher percentage of cotton, cashmere or wool.
To my delight, there a few gems hidden in cheaper and more affordable brands. Take this cute and quirky Asos Owl sweater which is made of 100% cotton but priced at a very affordable £30. Or the hologram merino wool sweater from COS for a mere £55. Now if you're wondering why I've featured a pair of strappy wedges amongst the winter offerings, it's the rebel in me hoping that the weather would change so that I get to wear summer clothes. Or perhaps I'm displaying a sense of optimism for the impossible. What's your winter uniform this year?
M, I think it's pretty obvious that you're obsessed with ankle-strap shoes by now! :P In any case, I like the IRO moto jacket and the MNG cable knit. Might have to look into that.
ReplyDeleteAs for winter uniform, the same old - jeans, sweater, scarf, coat & hat(occasionally gloves)!
Mine is that fake fur Kate Spade popover, it's so easy to wear and it goes with everything, it's never off my back.
ReplyDeleteLove all that grey!
ReplyDeleteMy winter uniform is going to focus on dresses - a couple of cotton and silk pieces to layer over thin long-sleeved tees, and my array of wool dresses in black, grey and fuchsia. I am also looking forward to wearing my Carven structured wool skirt with my Kain tees, topped off with a merino or cashmere cardigan and wool jacket. Layered with merino or cashmere-blend tights from Falke and Fogal. And of course my favourite winter item - a black cocoon Carven coat purchased last Christmas. And finally, I am hoping to add a new burgundy leather bag to the mix this Christmas.
Leather pants are gorgeous - I love wearing mine with a chunky sweater:) x
ReplyDeleteYou have picked so much grey- I love it!
ReplyDeleteMy winter uniform will be cashmere knits and cardigans, silk blouses, Wolford cashmere and merino tights, navy blazer by The Row, bouclé, tweed and tailored blazers. I'm still taken with Balenciaga's cocoon shapes- so my Carven wool skirt will be in rotation. In the winter, I live in DVF and YSL wool dresses- so easy for work and all of the events in the evening. I'm allergic to most wools so I pretty much exclusively wear cashmere, but DVF's wool dresses don't bother me. I'm also such a sucker for a beautiful coats and gloves.
Cashemere, silk and merino jumpers, wool skirts and velvet jacket. Yes I tend to wear more skirts during winter than during summer time, call it weird...
ReplyDeleteI work in an office so no casual clothes for me, well not too casual anyway : I am french after all!!
Love your selection of items! I can't get enough of jumpers (or should I say sweaters? ;)), but have plenty of those by now...
ReplyDeleteHee hee, I've been working on my summer uniform post these last few days!
ReplyDeleteSome really nice picks - I've tried the navy Mango one when I was last in York and it's a lovely soft cotton - I can recommend that one. And owls on your chest? I would never have thought it of you. But I like the dark tones - a girl after my own heart and everyone else here.
ReplyDeleteLoving the Asos sweatshirt, I wanted the M&S one with sequins on but sold out x
ReplyDeleteIf only the IRO sweater was still available...There is still the Mango substitute and it's very warm for a very nice pricee ! Though quite showy if you want to stay in more neutral standards (?)
ReplyDeleteI really like that Mango sweater. There's something about navy that I always just gravitate to. Nice eclectic collection.

An oversized sweater over some sleek leather skinnies seems like the perfect way to balance being cozy with being chic.
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
I'm with you in terms of the strappy sandals - except for me it's shorts! I wore them almost all winter long. Different fabrics and styles but shorts. It meant that a great part of my winder wardrobe must haves were awesome (ie warm) leggings and booties!
ReplyDeleteThat owl sweater is adorable!! I too am so into sweaters right now and it hasn't been that cold here...YET!!
ReplyDeleteas much as i love spending the extra bucks on cashmere sweaters i've been buying some basic knit sweaters that are more wallet friendly from forever21. i love the asos & mango sweater you picked out!
ReplyDeleteI'm dying for that grey IRO jacket! My uniform this fall has been a silk blouse, blazer/jacket and leather or coated skinnies.
ReplyDeletewhat a great selection! that IRO jacket belongs in my wardrobe... now. When I lived in Australia, I never used to worry much about what my winter clothes were made of... but since moving to nyc, they have to be cashmere or wool. Australia doesnt *really* have a winter I've discovered, so properly warm clothes weren't necessary before!
ReplyDeletelove everything omg, thank goodness it's going into summer here. that zadig et voltaire cardi is absolutely beautiful, i've been looking for something like that all year and quite hunt it down now for next year..

Great collection. I'm on a sweater bender at the moment and have been eyeing many of them off. There are some gorgeous ones around this season and it's still cold in Melbourne! Crazy weather...
