Affordable Stylish Shoes for under £45

A good friend of mine, Naomi called me this morning in an absolute panic.  She's got to get a new outfit and shoes for a wedding next week and she has absolutely no idea where to start looking. I have a dress hanging in my wardrobe which is perfect for her hourglass figure but I doubt she can squeeze her normal sized feet into my UK 1 (US 4) shoes. It's no fun being Cinderella in the modern world when all you have is a pair of glass slippers and nothing else.

"Nothing too expensive", she said. "Must be comfortable (she's got 3 little ones and I'm the lucky godmother to the youngest) and mustn't sink into the lawn when I'm walking. Something classy so I won't look out of place there", she quipped. That's the beauty of living smack in the town center. I dashed out of the front door and met her at the local Next store within minutes.

The pointy court shoes were too tight around the toes but these almond shaped suede wedges caught my eye. Naomi was thrilled with these and found them to be comfortable. Although the website recommends sizing up, the wedges are actually true to size. Just something to bear in mind should you plan to order these online. Needless to say, lots of big sighs of relief all around. We couldn't believe that there were cheaper alternatives for good quality and comfortable heels. 40 quid!

I will freely admit that I'm a shoe snob, often preferring designer brands but this has changed my perspective of High St brands. Despite the lower price tag, there is nothing tacky about this collection at all. The elegant wedges are reminiscent of Christian Louboutin Peanut wedges with slightly wider toe box, padded soles for extra comfort and all without the killer height. All for £40 and under. What's not to like?

* The wedges were paid for by my friend.
* Next ships internationally to 61 countries.

  1. I used to be until I realised how stupid it was to be out for a pint of milk wearing Chanel shoes and fretting over them, so now I have lots of cheap shoes for everyday that I don't worry about.

  2. I love her in those wedges, they really are perfect. I can't wear total flats, they hurt me ( a little known gross face about getting older, the skin on your sole things out) so I have to have a bit of a heel, those small wedges are so elegant!

  6. The shoes that are showcased here are really nice ! I always buy inexpensive shoes and clothes because I feel that there is a whole wide world out there to explore and there are really some fantastic outfits/shoes from mid to low range prices. Thank you for your lovely feedback in my blog ! Hoping to keep in touch via your blog,

  7. I've seen the ankle boots but they're just not quite there. I think they do them in burgundy/wine/maroon/berry whatever that dratted shade is called and I'm desperately trying to find the perfect boot or shoe in this hue. I will know it when I see it. I had to pass on a pair of Clarks brogues today in that colour - they didn't have quite the stunning perfect nonchalant look I was hoping to adopt. I failed in my quest yet again. But those Elegant wedges do look nice. I'm not sure I can do wedges for the winter, summer yes, winter, not sure.

    1. What about IM Dickers? Mine are custom made for my small feet and look similar to the Dickers. I've worn them so much because they're just so versatile.

    2. Do they do them in a berry shade? I have the Office Namesake boots similar in style to the Dickers without being total copies. I would happily have a berry shade of Dicker type boots if I could find them (I can't stretch to the real things).

    3. No, the only berry shade I've seen would be in a leopard print Chelsea style ankle boots. Not sure that's your style. It's very similar to the previous IM collection.

  10. Liking the wedges, you're right about the shape being close to CL peanut ones as I've got those. The quality looks good from the pics, if I didn't already have something similar in black (PLV's Mia Wedges) I'd def buy a pair

  11. Those wedges are lovely! I think UK has US beat on great shoes at nice prices - I always found nice ones even at M&S. I don't think we have a Next here though :(

  12. I like the blue sequin heels!

I have shoes question for you, really hope you can help: What shoes would you recommend to wear with a knee length navy blue silk dress? It's for a formal dinner event.

    1. Hi Trishie! Personally, I like the understated black or nude pumps. The thinner heels tend to elongate the legs somewhat. Plain, elegant and classy.

The other option is to go for rather extravagant design like Valentino rockstud type heels as long as your dress is fairly low-key. I know some people who do "loud" clothes and shoes fantastically well but it really boils down to one's personality.

    2. Thanks for the advice! My dress is fairly plain, so I might dress up the shoes a little. This one caught my eye: wanted to know what you think? Is it too much? http://www.zushoe.com.au/catalogue/springbling/KOLISI.aspx#

  13. Hello Marlene! Love the wedges! Did you take the pics for your friend? :)
I have been looking around for wedge sandals lately and of all places found a good one from Bata, that reminds me of what Kristen Dunst would wear.

I am waiting for the Halogen ones to arrive and hopefully that fit!

    1. Hi Eileen! Yup, that was me behind the camera. My poor friend was roped in to be my foot model. Fingers crossed my Halogen wedges will arrive early next week. Still waiting anxiously for them. I wish Next sizes start at US 5. I can always put an insole if it's a size up but not anything bigger than that.

  15. Nice selection of budget friendly shoes. Don't always need to go for brand ones, especially for occasional events. I prefer your wedges to the shiny ones in the selection. Have a nice week-end !

  16. They are perfect, classic & elegant, great choice! I love the studded slipper ones in the collage too. I think Next do some brilliant shoes, especially considering the price, my only problem is they're mostly faux lather & as I have really wide feet they don't stretch like leather shoes making them pretty uncomfortable! :(

  17. Sadly, Next shoes are of very poor quality, I had several pairs of their heels and flats and although they did look nice, sadly didnt last longer than 2-3 months!!! That's not what you expect from shoes, even budget ones. I recommend Clarks for comfort and GOOD quality, and not expensive either. Lovely blog btw:)

  19. You are definitely the right lady to have on speed dial for a situation like this! Great wedges you found and a nice selection of other shoes as well to keep ladies from being in a tight spot. I got excited when I read 'wider toe box'! If only the designers would factor that in too now I'd be a very happy gal.
