The dramatic Rick Owens Naska Leather jacket

After a series of selfies taken for the purpose of displaying this Rick Owens jacket, I'm now convinced that a self portrait is an art form in itself. Trying to pose appropriately, relaxing facial muscles without looking like a wide eyed deranged woman on drugs while trying to control my arms  trembling from holding a hefty camera - all done simultaneously is quite a feat. On a more positive note, freezing myself into several poses with my gut sucked is considered a new form of Pilates...... Who knew?

So.......let me introduce you to the avant-garde Rick Owens Naska leather jacket, complete with a coat-tail. This new and edgier version caught my eye a few months ago. I decided to take the plunge when the Liberty store offered a 40% discount to all their VIP customers. Thus began a comedy of errors on their part - cancelation of order due to computer error, a demand to show evidence of my order (because the customer doesn't have a brain so she doesn't know what the heck she was trying to order in the first place), re-order, wrong SKU number (my fault apparently even though I don't even have a clue who does the tagging in their store) and finally, overcharging me (refunded with an arrogant message "we decided to refund as a gesture of goodwill").

Of course, the story wouldn't be complete without a mini soap opera of some sort - all culminated with my darling (note the sarcasm) sales associate who declared "this jacket is the BANE of my life" before holding further discussions with his colleague while forgetting that his phone wasn't on mute.  Nice one, bud. How one supposedly prominent and much admired store can be so sloppy with a simple transaction confounds me......

Okay, rant over. Despite its rather inauspicious start, I'm ecstatic with the jacket. But then again, Rick Owens is a genius for being able to design a leather jacket with a dramatic flair that managed to look both feminine and badass at the same time. The slightly padded shoulders gave my droopy ones an extra lift, the nipped in waist squeezed all my fatty bits into the right places giving me a pseudo-hourglass silhouette and the long sleeves with knitted wool inserts make my batwings look long and slender.

p.s. By the way, I'm a size UK 8 which converts to a 42. There's a UK 10/ IT 44 Rick Owens Nasja jacket at 30% off at the moment.

    1. I've mentioned on numerous occasions via Twitter but Liberty's bloody good at ignoring the customers when things go wrong.

    1. The customer service is U.S is beyond compare. It's awful here in the UK and even worse in France and Italy.

  7. Ah this jacket Marlene, it's amazing! I love the fit and design, you really do look great and bravo for taking these photos, those cameras aren't light. Liberty's should be ashamed! You choose to spend your hard earned money in their store and that's the response you get?! I hope you made a compliant.

    Take care,

  8. The jacket's cut is very flattering to your body. Well done for working hard and having the patience in getting it. As for Liberty, their sales staff is very good on the shop floor and from memory they have a customer services department which is a different group. I also had bad experience with the customer services desk in the past, they were indeed arrogant.

    1. You're right. Other than the one occasion, the service on the shop floor's really good but their customer services department is shocking. Truly awful.

  9. Wow-stunning jacket! Awful customs service and doubly frustrating when you're buying such a high ticket item! 'Bane of my life' makes me think it was someone from over here!! Anyway I'll get the whole biz and hopefully a try on when I see you soon x

  11. LOVE the jacket - esp the coat tails in back. As you said, it gives it an edgier look. It looks wonderful on you!I Is your's petrol or black? (Hard to tell in the pics). Either color rocks....

Snooty sales people..... ugh.... it seems the higher the ticket item, the snootier lately.

    1. Mine's black. It seems that the older I am, the more I like statement type clothes. This jacket is truly a piece of art.

    2. It makes sense,Marlene. Too many "classics" after a certain age can be downright aging and matronly.

    3. You bet. I'm so bored with classics at the moment, probably from owning way too many of those "forever" type clothes. I want my clothes to look interesting for a change.

    4. That is SO true. Mix classics with a bit of fun and you're fresh!

  12. Gorgeous jacket Marlene! How on earth did I miss the 40% discount????
I actually can believe how bad the service was, I'm finding with each visit their staff are getting more dismissive and rude and I think it's all down to Liberty employing younger staff that don't understand that they are selling luxury items and that customers expect them to go a bit further. Their social media team need a right kick up the butt!

    1. They actually had a few other Rick Owens leather jacket at 40% off. They were sold out very quickly. Not surprisingly. You're absolutely right. Initially, the service at Liberty's was fab. Over the past 12 months.....it deteriorated. I'm not even expecting them to treat me like a queen. Just to process a transaction the way ALL companies do. I get better service from ASOS buying a £30 jumper!

  13. The jacket is truly stunning a little work if art, I love the shirt tail detail and the leather looks amazing, so soft! Shame about the customer service, you expect more when buying an investment piece tut tut Libertys not good... But the jacket...perfection! X

  14. Ahh I know it is an old post but.... I am in the process to actually by this leather jacket (yes another one for me). Thanks to you as gradually and very softy you showed me some more casual clothes. But the most important thing is that they fit you well and make you look great...like this jacket. Thanks again Marlene for your (good) influence on grumpy ol' me regarding casual. That's true too that, as I age (well not so much but one as to use some words sometimes....) I tend to buy less "boring" clothes but always elegant and stylish. And truly, this jacket is rather classy if not classic.

    1. REALLY?! You're going to go ahead and buy the Rick Owens jacket? Well, good for you! You were not grumpy at all, M-B. I never get the dress your age crap either and stick to boring clothes.
