My style may be understated with an inclination towards monochrome tendencies but I do love a dramatic avant-garde flair in a jacket. This Rick Owens Naska leather jacket (I wear a size UK 10) caught my eye when I was out window shopping today. The man is a genius at contorting a woman's body in the most flattering way - long slender limbs, an hourglass torso and beautifully sculptured shoulders. Invaluable if you have a less than stellar body like mine.....thanks to lack of exercise (which is why I'm walking around all weekend like a bow legged cowboy after nearly killing myself in a two hour training session). The gathered back adds a point of interest in the jacket which will spice up even the most ordinary t-shirt and jeans outfit. Yes, the £1125 price tag is a rather eye watering figure but my rationale is 1) it's less expensive than other Rick Owens jackets  2) it's at least £400 less than the coveted Balenciaga leather jacket  3) it'll still be incredibly fashionable for years to come  4) it'll make my figure look like Jessica Rabbit's.

The Jigsaw breton top came home with me. I've been looking for an affordable and well made lightweight striped shirt since...........well, forever. It has a scoop neck which alleviate the fullness of my moon shaped face and jiggly double chin. I was nearly boiled alive in my Petit Bateau heavy jersey mariniere when the temperature hit an astonishing 18˚C today so this thinner top will come in really handy this summer.

Thank you all for your input on foundations recently. I ended up with.........the new Chanel Perfection Lumiére Velvet completely by accident. I was given a sample and diligently tested it over the past 2 whole days. It's quite sheer but turns matte and slightly powder like once applied onto the skin. Quite extraordinary really. I only used a few drops but it certainly filled in my crater like pores. And most importantly, I did not look like a geisha girl.

My ceramic obsession shows no sign of abating. Debenhams has a 20% discount and an additional 10% off with code BM92 (today only). This was enough to convince me to splurge on a Wedgwood teapot and another teacup. My pretty cup and saucer sets never ever fail to put a smile on my friends' faces whenever I serve their tea or coffee in them.

I've been using Neutrogena sunscreen for more than a decade and I do swear by them. My stash of these impossible to get sunscreen is drying up pretty soon so I'll have to rely on brands that are more readily available in the U.K. I've read rave reviews about La Roche-Posay Anthelios range so these are on my list to get just before summer season arrives.

  1. I love your thought process and justification it is just so perfect. I am really glad you found the right foundation and I, too, may be on the lookout for a change. I purchased my usual Bobbi Brown in the usual colour but it just doesn't look or feel the same? I hate it when this happens. You are quite right tea tastes supreme out of a china tea cup. H xx

    1. haha...I love how diplomatic you are. I would've called it spouting-rubbish-to-justify-an-expensive-purchase

  2. Oh, I just tried one of the sunscreens under La Roche-Posay Anthelios - it says highly water resistant but it didn't stay on when I went jogging! I had pale milk streaks on my face and when they ran into my eyes I had to resist the urge to howl. I meant to give it a second go to see whether it was a one off thing, but I've gotten comfortable with my Shu Uemura UV underbase mousse, which rocks - sun protection plus very very sheer coverage that evens out my skin ever so slightly, and stays nice and matte all day. And I am sticking to Neutrogena when I do sporty things.

18 degrees - I'm envious. We've reached the time of the year when your skin stays damp after you step out of the shower from the humidity.

    1. Bugger. I'm going to scrape that La Roche-Posay sunscreen off my list. I'm going to have to beg any friends or family coming over from either NZ or the US for Neutrogena sunscreen.

I'm not sure how I can stay sane in the tropics without A/C turned on 24/7. Most days, I just want to take cold shower 10 times a day.

  3. I think a leather jacket is definitely an item to splurge on because they can be a wardrobe staple for years and in the British climate get pretty much year round use. I also think (fondly, perhaps) that an on-trend but not over styled jacket can made more mature women look up to date without being a fashion victim or mutton dressed as lamb (I speak of myself, not you here!). So your purchase is starting to look like a bargain, no? Personally, I need more structure in the shoulders than Rick Owens cuts (I have stoopy shoulders and bad posture!) but when I see his stuff on others I always admire how classically fluid a look he gives. 1. Susan, I have droopy shoulders which is why I like this jackets. I want super sharp broad shoulders (those of you who have these don't know how lucky you are). I'm going to pray very hard that this particular RO jacket goes on sale.

  4. Great jacket! What are the sizes listed comparable to? Small, medium and large? All are sold out except the 44.

    1. They run very VERY small. I'm a UK 8 and wear size 42. Definitely take the next size up if you want to layer. Size 44 would be a medium. 42 is a small.

    2. BTW, Catherine, the 3rd picture on the shopping widget is the cheapest of the lot. It's nearly £50 cheaper.

    1. I haven't found a ton of feedback about it so I'm glad to hear from someone who's used the foundation.

  6. Ah, My Current Wish List – a mix of dreams, fleeting whims, and those 'got-to-have' trinkets. Sometimes, it's about the stars and, at other times, just that cozy blanket. Funny how it mirrors life, oscillating between grand plans and the simple joys. What's on yours? Curious minds want to know!
