1. Boy
Real life: "You're a good boy" or "boy, that was difficult." That would be how one apply the word in our everyday life.
Fashion world: "Your Boy!! Yum! Major lust!"
Take it out of its context and it WILL sound perverted. Try saying it on a street full of non fashion-y people and you may see mothers gripping their young sons tighter with a horrified expression. It's not of a human variety but a ubiquitous small quilted Chanel bag that sits firmly on the Sh*t that bloggers wear list (a bag that I secretly like. Shhhhh.....).

2. Street style
What was once a portrayal of what normal people wear on the street is now a euphemism for a new word - peacocking.

3. Caged
In the dictionary, the word caged has something to do with the incarceration of living creatures. In the fashion world, it's referred to bondage like heels which I suppose is a fairly appropriate term to describe the way are feet are bound within the confines of multitude of straps.

4. Skinny jeans
The title given belies the reality. Toothpick legs + skinny jeans = skinny legs. Drumstick legs + skinny jeans = stuffed sausage. The casing (aka jeans) takes the shape of the stuffing (legs).

5. Plus size
Anyone who's not size UK 8/10 or US 0/2.  If you're Asian and have plenty of straight talking Asian relatives (in other words, there's no filtering process between the brain and mouth), you will be considered a plus size if you were once a UK 6 but are now a "chubby" UK 8.

  1. You could probably add the "nude" one to the list. :) For there's no longer "beige" colour in fashion. :)

  2. What I find funny here in the US is how everyone says everything in the singular as if we are half people, the smoky eye, the skinny jean, the trouser, the red lip...well you get the idea...

    1. Funny, you should mention this. I didn't understand why pants are called pant. Dogs pant....right?

  3. Oh the plus size applies to Asian girls everywhere, unfortunately! I love how XL in one Shanghai store was a S on my friend!

  4. Remove it from its unique situation and it WILL sound distorted. Give saying it a shot a road loaded with non style y individuals and you might see moms grasping their young children more tight with a shocked articulation.
