It's ironic that I'm enamored with flowers now. Blame it on Instagram. Photos of flowers are in abundance (FYIyou can get A LOT of likes).  Friends consider it a miracle that my second orchid plant is still alive after 2 months. I call it divine intervention. I'm rather proud that I can tell peonies from carnations these days.

I must've walked past Catkin & Pussywillow many times and Instagrammed the flowers to death but this was the first time I had a chance to take a look inside the store. It's tucked away on a street next to the train station in Winchester. It's like walking into a perfumery and treasure trove because the welcoming floral scent hits you as you enter the store. I was rather taken by the handmade candles from St Eval, a small artisan company based in Cornwall. Scented candles for less than £10? Bargain. And then there are these antique toys, Indie magazines and books (including Kinfolk) and chocolate bars peeking out from every corner.

Normally when I see something I love,  I have to skulk around just to get a few shots in, lest I get booted out of the store. If my oversized camera was any indication of my intent to shoot a few frames........ but a cheerful staff member walked up to me and say, "go ahead. Photograph anything". Ahhh.....music to my ears.

    1. Oh wow. You were trained as a florist? I've only just realized how difficult it is to make flower arrangements look good.

  4. I grew (note past tense) herbs like basil, coriander etc since I enjoy freshly plucked herbs for my cooking. Alas, most of the herbs die on me after a few months so I console myself that it is challenging for some herbs to thrive in tropical climate.
Until a friend told me that her mother easily grew Chinese Parsley just by putting them in a mug with water!

    1. This sounds awful but I feel good hearing that I'm not the only person with two semi black thumbs. Huh! I didn't know it's that easy to grow chinese parsley.

  5. I casually threw some sprigs of Chinese parsley into a mug of water, per my friend's mother. The herb died 2 days later. I've made up my mind to steal some water from her place next time, must be some magic water.

    1. LOL! Reminds me of my friend who'd insisted that an orchid is impossible to kill. She was incredulous to hear that a month later, I did exactly that.

  6. I love places like this and I have a little gem like this not far from me. Not so many fresh flowers but lots of quirky beautiful house decor items which I'd love to indulge in. I keep telling you - you live in a wonderful part of the country.

    1. I am very lucky to live here where but these type of stores are getting very rare. I guess they're swallowed by retail giants.

  8. Haha, Instagram gave me a newfound love for flowers too. I bought my first bouquet earlier this month and now always make sure I walk on the florist's side of the sidewalk so I can feast my eyes on all the colors.
