Macarons, Christmas market & Isabel Marant

I've learned that if you're dying to get LOTS of likes on Instagram , do NOT take a selfie (if you're gorgeous, people will hate you & if you look like you just got out of bed, no one wants to look at you). Instead, take a shot of macarons. The world has gone macaron mad lately. *Ahem* so have I. You and I know that we buy Laduree macarons for the packaging. Go on, admit it. They don't come cheap so you'll have to savor every morsel, every sand sized ground almond.

BUT I've found a cheaper alternative on Ocado. I bought a box of 36 frozen petit macarons imported from France (the brand's called Traiteur de Paris) for £12.49 (it's on sale. The Asian DNA in me thinks it's such a bargain, I have to order 2 boxes). In terms of flavor, Pierre Herme still wins hands down but the pistachio and chocolate macarons are so so good.

The Christmas market is in town again. We, the locals are secretly proud that we have a proper Christmas market in our backyard but of course, it wouldn't be right if we do not mumble and complain. "It takes AGES for me to get to work. Shuffle shuffle shuffle. Geez. Can't they walk faster?!, one snarled. "Too many tourists!" "The crowds! Goodness gracious me, it really wears you down" "Same crap, different year". We, however, sing a different tune when asked about it by out-of-towners. "Gosh, you'll have to come. It's ahhhmaaaaaayzzzzing!!!!"

I'm sorry I updated an existing post instead of publishing a separate one about the much desired Isabel Marant x H&M beaded jacket which many of you have missed. Unfortunately, I'd returned a boxful of items including the said jacket before I received your emails. I've realized that most of you get daily blog updates via email. If you're living in the U.S or U.K, contact H&M call center (U.K 0843 713 7305) as the returns are coming in. There was a size 14 beaded jacket when I last called. Most items may not appear on the website but they are available on their database.

  1. Thanks for the heads up on the macaroon bargain! I made some last year and that wasn't cheap by the time I'd bought all the stuff x

  3. I tried to make some macarons over Thanksgiving but I can't say they turned out as nice (though they were actually quite good!) I think I will leave macaron making to the experts!

  5. Marlene you are tempting me to call and try and get some things sent to my postal address... I really wanted the leather pants but I haven't a clue how they fit!

    1. I read somewhere that said either take your usual size or go 1 size smaller as they stretch. But knowing IM, I suggest taking your usual size because I've tried their mainline leather pants before in a smaller size and they were too really tight.

  6. I had to google the Macarons of course as I was hoping they were also stocked at Waitrose and then I was going to let the Grumps do an online shop (he wants to order lots of Heston bits purely for research) and I could sneak a batch of these in but alas they are not :o( Because £12.99 for 36 macarons is a bargain. My sanity would cost more if I were to try and make.

  9. Oh, those macarons look so delicious. I also can't get enough of macarons. And thanks to your posts about the grey sweatshirt from the IM pour H&M collection I decided to order one as well. I was just in time before all the items from the collaboration were taken off the website. Pfew!

    1. It's so odd. A lot of items are actually available if you contact the call center but there's practically nothing online!
