house doctor chopping board /  Mango cable knit sweater (similar here) /  REN hair conditionerREN rose centifolia exfoliator (use code XMAS12 to get 12% off) / Royal Albert tea cup setChanel Blue Boy nail polish / Repetto ballet flats / Hermes Ulysee PM

I've been hunting around for a large wooden chopping board when I found this one from a Danish company, House Doctor. My rationale is that it'll serve multiple purposes. Other than what it's designed for, it's great as a serving plate for charcuterie and a prop for food photography.

This 100% cotton cable knit from Mango has served me well for the past year. Frankly speaking, I'm incredibly impressed by the quality of this £29.99 sweater.

I know that many of you are fans of the pretty pink but it's a vile color on a tomboy like me. Blech. I searched high and low for the perfect blue shade (you know.....I'm afflicted with the Goldilocks syndrome) - not too dark, not too bright. And something I can wear all year round. I really like this "magic" shade from Chanel which is a muted dark blue (sorry, the color appeared too dark in the photo).

I've mentioned about my hair growing back so there are lots of frizzy bits sticking out everywhere. An untrimmed Asian poodle comes to mind. I thought I'd check out REN pro-vitamin conditioner. The price tag made me slightly hesitant but thankfully, it was well worth the extra expenditure.  The conditioner made my hair easy to hand comb while I'm showering. It has a creamy texture which glides on  easily during application. You don't need to much to make your hair feel soft. Unfortunately, I'm not all too happy with the shampoo which left a greasy residue after a week.

I wanted a natural and gentler exfoliator that will flush out the dirt in the craters (I mean pores) without turning my skin into parchment paper. My skin certainly felt smooth and hydrated after I've used the REN rosa centifolia exfoliating cleanser (whew! What a mouthful. How did they come up with this name?!).

I've decided that coffee and tea taste way better in pretty cups. It's a psychological thing that's a bit hard to explain. My tea cup and saucer sets from Royal Albert aren't as earth shatteringly expensive as some of the others but they sure are easy on the eyes.

I know there are a million brands that churn out ballet flats but my first and only love is still Repetto. My blue jean Hermes Ulysee leather journal is nearly a decade old. I've set it aside when I switched to a smartphone. After a series of battles with my smartphone, I've decided that a notebook and a pen still work better and far more efficiently. And you can't accidentally press delete.

  1. Hi marlene, just came across from facebook, am loving this sweater, thinking maybe a good match for the light pink shirt I just re-discovered in my closet after having a good old shuffle around.

    1. I was a little apprehensive that a sweater this cheap will be good but I got more wear out of this and another similar version than my other designer ones.

  2. I might have to give the Ren cleanser a try - I'm been having uncharacteristically bad skin, mostly as a result of trying a number of different cleansers (I imagine they are all working their magic in different ways, releasing all the bad stuff from my pores), only to return to my old faithful St Ives!

    1. I finished my tube of St Ives which was great but I wanted something gentler. This is more of an everyday cleanser as opposed to the once a week exfoliator.

  4. Hi Marlene,

You pretty much wrote my fall shopping list this year -- got the Kady jacket AND that Mango sweater after you posted about them. Love them both.
Oh and fyi, I have one of the Everlane cashmere shawls and it is excellent value for the price.

    1. I was pretty surprised they decided to decrease the price of the Kady this year. Mango and ASOS have both churned out surprisingly well made 100% sweaters. I'm waiting for Everlane to start shipping to the U.K. Their silk shirts are comparable to Equipment but what a price difference between the two.

    1. Fiona, I bought mine from Debenhams when it was on sale. It's crazy how my friends always go for the prettier cups. I've set aside my plain Villeroy & Boch ones because nobody wants to drink out of those.

  8. Lovely post Marlene! This sweater looks so perfect, I love cable-knit sweaters, I hope to one day own a million of them :D I've never had a pair of Repetto ballet pumps ( I have no idea why?!) but i've been looking for the perfect red pair, maybe they have some?? :)

    Take care,

    1. I bought a pair of patent red Repetto ballet pumps which went to my goddaughter. Just be sure to go 2 sizes up if you're getting ones in patent leather as they run really small.

  10. I have just bought myself a starter pack of the Ren products from M&S. They stock a set which costs £30 and contains 4 different items, one of which is a full size bottle of the Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask which would cost £30 on it's own. Fingers crossed for baby bottom skin.

  11. I can't see the Mango sweater on their UK site. There is one a similar colour but the pattern is different. Yours looks lovely. After going through some boxes of clothes, I have rediscovered a cotton cable knit sweater I bought from Nicole F. about 20 years ago! Re tea cups, I buy bone china mugs from a poundstretcher store near me. They are pretty, and it doesn't matter if I break one. They cost £1.25. I cannot stand drinking tea or coffee out of anything other than porcelain or bone china.

    1. You get get the same Mango sweater from Asos as well. Lucky you, I haven't found really pretty porcelain cups for £1.25. Even the ones at charity shops are expensive.
