Capsule Wardrobe Challenge Day 3: Double Up

Monday 21 October 2013
capsule-autumn

Zara boyfriend jeans
Zara biker boots
Rick Owens leather jacket (similar here)
Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere 35
Hermes belt (hidden)

My closet is so minuscule that there's no clear division between spring/summer and autumn/winter clothes. Frankly, I don't understand why we can't wear our clothes all year round especially if we've paid a small fortune for the privilege of owning them. Take my Rick Owens jacket (wincing in financial pain) which is clearly too thin to wear on its own in the current freezing-my-butt-off weather. There's no rule stating that we can't wear two jackets simultaneously. I mean, if you can carry two handbags at any one time, why not do the same with clothes?

I managed to nab this ultra warm and cozy Helmut jersey jacket last year which sold out so quickly. It was re-introduced this year but again, it was out of stock within weeks. It's a sweatshirt that doesn't look like a sweatshirt (I know, I know. It's such an oxymoron. It's a little like eating vegetarian chicken which defeats the purpose....really...) which lessens my guilt when I'm wearing my track pants and sweatshirt combo yet again. Clearly, I'm having trouble letting go of my varsity days despite having left the institution two decades ago. Anyhoo.....after that long winded cockamamie spiel......... By combining the two pieces together, I could extend the use of the leather jacket to all year long. Well, until it starts to snow........

  2. Great to see the Louis Vuitton Speedy B in your wardrobe challenge! Twice! :)
Quick question for you Marlene, do you keep your LV's lock in the bag itself or hide it in the original box?

    1. The Speedy gets used a lot especially when I'm traveling. Eeeeeks. Thanks for the reminder. I need to find that lock. No idea where it is. Guess it shows I don't ever use it :P

    1. What?! I adore Balenciaga leather jackets. They're really thick. I can't imagine wearing it in Dubai though.

  4. That Helmut Lang jacket is gorgeous, I designer I should look at more especially at sale time! Loving the posts, it is lovely to see you regularly instead of hiding behind the camera 📷 xx

    1. I definitely feel far more comfortable behind the lens. I've only just "discovered" Helmut Lang. The cut is flattering. The designs are simply but always edgy.

  5. I have to say you've got the best colourway in the Helmut Lang - it makes such a nice contrast against the Rick Owens. Wish I'd got one when you told us all. Slow off the mark as usual. I think this is my favourite look so far and I love them all.

    1. Aww...thanks, Catherine! I went to check out Rick Owen's latest leather jacket collection. The shearling version was over £2K! I nearly passed out. So this is the poor woman's version of a "shearling" RO.

  8. I love that look of a soft jacket under a leather one! You look so so pretty - what have you done? (Or maybe I haven't seen you without a hat before!)

    1. Err.....I cut my hair after a year of avoiding the hairdresser. 2 friends walked past me today without recognizing me. Yikes, I must've looked like a rugrat before my haircut.

  9. I love the layering of jackets - I don't think I've ever done this, or yet needed to in Wellington, but when I finally do, I'll be taking a cue from you!

    1. It's hot and cold here. I find myself removing my jacket during the day only to pile them back on by 5pm.

  10. I thought you were wearing a shearling jacket too. That HL jacket which I have been eyeing for a year 'suddenly' went sold out last week during Shopbop F&F Sales. Anyhow, I know I do not need them. But you looked so cool with this jacket under a RO. Very practical and make the clothes useful at every season! - I Ying

    1. I would not suggest you buy the HL jacket. It's VERY warm. You're most likely to roast alive in them! Haha....can't afford RO shearling. It costs more than RM 11,000 !!!

  11. Just found your blog via Sue's and I'm so glad I did. I am obsessed with this outfit. It's got everything I love: black boots, layers, A Wang tees, distressed boyfriend jeans, sweatshirts, big lapels, helmut lang and rick owens... Seriously, in one look, you have managed to wear everything I love. Without even looking like you're trying. Count me in as a new fan.

ps- are those zara jeans from now? The shape and level of distress is kind of perfect...

    1. Sue is a sweetheart, isn't she? And hysterically funny too. What a lovely compliment! Thank you! You're absolutely right. The boyfriend jeans are from Zara. I love the ripped look but I'm don't really like holes in my jeans. These ones are patched up from the inside so it's actually perfect for winter too.

    2. Totally agree, I love my jeans (especially the slouchier boyfriendier ones) distressed, but when they come with actual holes showing my actual skin underneath, I run away screaming. These look so perfect. Are they in store right now or from a previous season?

    3. I bought them a few seasons back but here's one very similar in Zara at the moment. http://www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/jeans/ripped-boyfriend-jeans-c271007p1386520.html

  12. Two jackets?!! Oh, you're killing me. It's too hot here to even wear one jacket. I'm so jealous. And don't for a minute feel bad about buying either. They look fabulous on you. Love layering! Love the outfit!
