I feel the most comfortable and confident in my jeans. I don't have to worry about how I sit or squat. While I love the idea of wearing dresses, I'm always paranoid whenever it gets windy (having had the misfortune of a few Marilyn Monroe moments) or one side of my dress rides up from being tugged by my messenger bag (another common occurrence for a klutz like me).

Y'all know my obsession with boyfriend jeans and ankle strap sandals. I think it's about time (3000 photos of my ripped boyfriend jeans later.) that I explore other possibilities. The first thing you're going to notice about the gorgeous Miranda Kerr is the quintessential Chanel black jacket. But wait, check out her jeans and Reese Witherspoon's too while you're it. It's mid to high rise, light colored, cigarette tapered skinny jeans and cuffed at the ankle. The look is slightly edgy and retro. If you're a classic gal like me, keep the top half simple. And for those of us who are vertically challenged, a pair of heels will work wonders.

  1. I am slowly starting to get back into skinny jeans (I think my shape has always dissuaded me from squeezing into a pair) but recently I have started trying more and more in the dressing rooms. Can't wait for the weather to get cooler so that I can start sporting them!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Same here. I used to think skinny jeans are for very skinny people. Reese Witherspoon is normal and isn't built like a model so she gives me A LOT of hope.

  2. I love boyfriend jeans as well - with a blazer and a nice pair of shoes they can look very chic, and I think you definitely wear yours beautifully.

I also like mid/high rise jeans (basically anything that isn't low rise) because I'm teriffied that if I bend to pick up something, I will flash people with parts of my lower body anatomy, and thankfully with mid/high rise jeans this is not so much of an issue! The also have the extra bonus of tucking in a possible muffin tops... ^^

    1. You've nailed exactly what's on my mind. I've seen my fair share of butt cracks so I'm also so conscious about accidentally showing mine! It's true about tucking in muffin tops especially for apple figured people like myself. Thank you for the lovely comment. I think it's time I show some variety as well. I've been sporting my boyfriend jeans in nearly every outfit post!

  3. Well I could not but answer you about the "vertically challenged" part of course....
I am not one to like the politically correct word: people are fat, small or petit(e), short or far sighted ... I always wondered why we should be afraid of words that exists... That said I do not wear heels with jeans as I only wear jeans during week end, never at the office, too casual. I only wear boot cut classic, old plain Levis the best for me (I had the opportunity to stack some of the lasts 501 which I therefore keep with the utter care.. as they are perfect for biking (I mean motorbike of course!!)and thick enough in case you fall. Do not like skinny as "should" wear petites: well I really do not like to be told what I should or should not wear (or say for that matter..). And I particularly dislilke the shame that was for me this stupid trend of low rise: I mean I have curve but am petite so to find a good jeans (same for skirts and trousers) that fit but could allow me to tuck (yes I do tuck) my tees or shirts INSIDE my jeans without actually losing it, well what a pain in the ass. I mean I have a definite waist thank you and hips as well, why should I hide?
But finish ranting, although you showed us Your boyfriend jeans often I think you managed to style it properly and with various outfits. But finding the proper fit is a long quest so good luck with that.

    1. Actually, I tend to use the word vertically challenged in sarcasm :P I tend to be very direct - being Asian and all but I've learned to curb it a tad. I can't do low rise. My gut and butt crack will be hanging for the world to see :) Thank you for the kind words. I do love the boyfriend jeans as I've mentioned before, I think I really need some variety too.

  4. Never even noticed her Chanel jacket, I was too dazzled by her gazelle legs.

    1. This will be the only time where I prefer the jacket to the legs :P

  5. Oh I do love a high rise skinny, great for tucking in my tummy like a good old fashioned girdle! Topshop Jamie jeans are great and for the vertically challenged like myself also they do a ankle skimmer length .

    1. I've heard about the Topshop Jamie jeans. Isn't that Emmanuelle Alt's favorite?

    2. I believe so, she likes Baxter or Jamie, I found being short in the leg the Jamie were a better fit for me especially the ankle grazer look great with either ballet or heels.

  6. Really looking forward to seeing you try this - I have one pair which isn't super skinny that I can do this with but I sometimes think it looks a little silly when I'm not wearing heels - this is probably all in my head though.

  9. I love your blog and how it covers a mix of sartorial, lifestyle, and profound topics! I don't know why I'm choosing this post to make my first comment, but here goes. I did the low-waist jeans for years, but now that I'm on the wrong side of 40 haha, I'm sticking to mid-rise, which means the waistband sits just below the belly button. (High-rise ones sit above the belly button and not comfy to everyone.)

My current favourite mid-rise styles are by Rag & Bone (the Legging) and Frame (Le Skinny de Jeanne). Their denim is soft and the cuts flattering. I highly recommend!

    1. Aly, what a lovely comment. Thank you! The hodge podge topics that can be found here is the direct result of my insect like attention span :P

LOL! I didn't know there's a wrong side to 40 but you're right. Mid rise is way more comfortable than high rise. I haven't tried high rise but I think the waistband my suffocate my muffin top. That could a good thing, you know :)
