My thoughts on.......
Life - Don't sweat the small stuff. Life took a different meaning when an old friend told me recently about her husband's incurable cancer. Life is precious but an adventure nonetheless with constant and unexpected twists and turns, ups and downs so make the most out of it.
Fear - It's intangible and an illusion but cripples the individual who subscribes to it. I've finally learned to ask Why Not? instead of saying I can't.
Excuses - They're a form of shifting blame instead of accepting responsibility.
Style for women in their 40s - Don't fix if it ain't broken. No idea what dressing your age means but as long as your boobs aren't spilling out of your top and butt crack isn't shown, who cares what the rules are as long as you're feeling good about what you wear.
Turning 40 next month - My brain thinks I'm 30, my body tells me I'm 40 by breaking down and my daughter tells everyone I'll be middle aged soon.
Great post as always Marlene!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with not sweating the small stuff and life's too short to be worried what anyone else thinks. I guess that comes with age and wisdom. Do what's important to you, it's normally other folk with their own hang ups and insecurities that tell you that you can't do something.
Always be true to yourself keep your dignity and integrity are words I live by.
40 is fabulous the best decade in my opinion enjoy all life's opportunities and follow your dreams!
I was 50 last month and if I want to wear a bikini I will !!
Big hugs
Xx
Wise words to live by, Jo. Thank you for sharing.
DeleteThat's so sad, we all take so much for granted.
ReplyDeleteFlossie - I couldn't wear a bikini at 18, so good on you! It's all down to what works for your body.
You and me both, Tabitha. Never worn a bikini in my life but heck, if I have your body, I WOULD wear one.
DeleteGreat tips! I didn't realise we were practically the same age - I turn 40 in September and yet I am so jealous because you look young enough to be my daughter!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFiona
Hell, no, I don't look young enough to be your daughter! You have a hot bod and you don't look old. Whaddayamean?!
DeleteI'm 31, my brain tells me I'm 22, my body tells me I'm 18. Forever young is so cool right now.....NOT! I still get ID-ed :S
ReplyDeleteLife is just too vulnerable and short. I like the way you said about fear and excuses. And of course, we are not dressed to tell everyone our age! - I Ying
ReplyDeleteIt's so true - all the small stuff is so inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. We just have to have fun and do the best with the time we have right? You don't like your age at all! Keep on rocking what you want to rock!

You look too young to be turning 40! I will be joining you next year..lol
ReplyDeleteThank you for this inspiring post! A great reminder to be grateful for what I have, not coveting for things I don't have, and being contented. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Marlene, wonderfully put as always! Life is precious and we all really should appreciate it as much as we possibly can. I truly agree with everything you've said here. :)
ReplyDeleteTake care and have a wonderful and sunny weekend,

The bit about your daughter telling everyone about your middle age made me chuckle... Ain't she a darling. :D
ReplyDeleteIt is weird that I want to be you already? I feel like people make too big of a deal of their 20s...
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your friend's husband. That's incredibly sad. This is such an insightful post. Love it Marlene.

Kids... ;-) I'm turning 30 next month. What day is your birthday Marlene?
ReplyDeleteBirthday's about the time I meet you :P
DeleteAha! ;-)
DeleteLovely post Marlene. and very sorry to hear about your friend's hubby. Would never have known you were 40 soon. You look fab!
ReplyDeleteHow funny that she's telling everyone that (although not that funny). I know women in their forties say that they really let go of all the feminine negativity that we just struggle with internally, and it seems like you're already there so that's a big plus. I'm 34, and I feel like I'm in this period of undefined style/what looks good on me, lackluster feelings about my body, and worrying a lot. I just moved cross country and kept on saying this is a fresh start, but I've brought these old ways of thinking over with me, and realize that I need to really make a thoughtful effort to change around my thinking because physical movement doesn't necessarily mean emotional movement, too....so don't sweat the small stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's always really hard when you move, having to adjust to new surroundings, build a new group of friends and slowly learning to redefine yourself. You're right, sometimes I think we all worry too much about little things that do not really matter in a large scheme of things.
DeleteLove this one. Agree with the first 3. I attended some personal motivation/self enrichment workshop lately and although I wouldn't go as far as saying it changed my life...I must say it changed my perspective and mentality a lot.
ReplyDeleteTime is a fast depreciating asset and the present value of today is always higher than tomorrow....gotta seize the day and live it to the fullest.
brilliant post! And completely agree - I've spent this weekend feeling anxious about a lot of things that are really out of my control. Just trying to focus on the things I can change and hoping the rest will follow!
ReplyDeleteHannah xx
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's husband...
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this Marlene. I've really tried to be better about living/enjoying the moment (hard when you're very type A). Life is so precious.
Ha ha... the two 40's 'thoughts'! I love the clevage/crack thoughts. GOOD advice and Marlene, I swear you will NEVER be middle aged. To our kids we are all old :(
