I haven't explored Portobello Road properly since 1997 other than sort of nipping in and out of its fringes on my way to Westbourne Grove. Lil L and I got a little lost after leaving a friend's Notting Hill flat (I can't tell my right from my left) and ended up checking out the market by default.  I got a little excited pretending that I was Hugh Grant strolling through the Portobello market with the season changing from summer to winter and back again (remember that scene??).

I wonder how many kidneys and Birkins I have to sell in order to afford one of those colorful terraced townhouses?

  1. I loved the consignment and charity stores in Notting Hill and it's just such a nice area. As for kidneys and Birkins, I'm guessing a gazillion? ;)

  2. I had 6 very happy years living on Ledbury Rd in a run down dilapidated flat surrounded by spectacular properties - location, location, location....

  5. Hee hee, yes I remember that scene. We only had a quick wander through Notting Hill so I will enjoy more time there next time we visit. Seems that spring blossom are a perfect accompaniment to the pastels of the buildings!

  6. I never realised it was so colourful. Wonderful shops - sometimes it's good to go the wrong way.

So did you have a nutella crepe then?

  10. I worked on Portobello Road in the Eighties. It was fun then and it wasn't uber trendy.
