House of Grazia & Matches Fashion

I, for one have never harbored any dreams to participate in London Fashion Week events so it came to a complete surprise when I was invited to the House of Grazia aka the elegant Matches Fashion townhouse over a 5 day period. It didn't even occur to me to register for the fashion shows either. However, I've heard whispers of the interesting outfits outside Somerset House so I may just turn up just to see the hoo-ha.

Grazia has set up camp at the Matches Fashion townhouse and will be reporting live there during the entire London Fashion Week. When I casually mentioned to a young friend of mine that Henry Holland was going to be "in da house", she screamed and hyperventilated. I thought she was going to pass out. In future, I'd love to be able to give the opportunity to a friend or reader to come along to one of these functions with me. Needless to say, I feel not only honored but also privileged to catch a glimpse of what London Fashion Week is all about.

Unfortunately, thanks to the train being re-routed all over South of England, we arrived 2.5 hours later and only caught the last 10 minutes of the talk given by Sandra of 5 Inch and Up as well as a couple of others (more about this here). I was not only one of the oldest bloggers there, I was THE only blogger who turned up to a fashion event with a young child in tow (lucky me, LFW coincides with half term break). I saw a few bloggers' jaws hit the ground when I turned up with Lil L but the lovely ladies from Matches Fashion and Grazia crew didn't even bat an eyelid.Thank you to Simone (Matches Fashion) and Becky (Grazia) for the highlight of my visit. Not to mention the scrumptious pastries, coffee, yummy gorgeous models eye candies waiters (shh....don't tell the hubs I said that).

I had to eschew the afternoon event as a reward for Lil L's exemplary behavior so off we went to have dim sum at Chinatown. You know what they say about most Chinese restaurants. The tackier and ruder the service, the better the food. The service was better than usual and the food was just so so. Guess you can't have both...... Sorry, Sue , I suck at being a style blogger which is why this is a lifestyle blog. I was too busy ogling the gorgeous waiters and chatting to the lovely ladies at the townhouse that it didn't occur to me that anyone would be interested in my outfit.

Lil L and I negotiated a deal. I could check out Selfridges' shoe gallery on the condition that she gets up to the London Eye. While she was beyond ecstatic and could hardly contain her glee (she has been nagging to go up the London Eye for 1.5 years now), I was exhausted and felt the beginnings of frostbite on my toes (yes, I was dressed most inappropriately thinking that sunshine = warm). "Mama, I told you to wear your boots". Smartass

  1. You are such a great photographer, I love dim sum but haven't had them in years. Oh I can't bear fashion shows, they bore me rigid, are you getting all the fashion week bumph in your inbox too?

    1. Thanks, Tabitha. Nope, I'm not going to all the events. Since I hadn't bothered to register, I'm probably going to one show. Still undecided whether to turn up as I have to get up at an ungodly hour and fight with everyone for a seat on the train.

  2. It's not just me who thinks that service in Chinese restaurants is rude then? I've never realised that the ruder the service the better the food though. I'm going to our regular one this afternoon and I like our head waiter so much (and he likes us - he bought my boys Christmas presents) that I'm taking him a batch of brownies I baked specially and I don't bake. I've kind of got used to it now but I always feel like I have to apologise to my English friends when I take them to a restaurant when they get their food practically dumped on them. Pictures are gorgeous and I will forgive you for the lack of outfit shots but I love to see what you wear. And we're taking the boys in to Leeds this afternoon to have a go on the wheel in Leeds. Should be fun (hmmm).

  5. What a cool experience and pictures of London!
Funny we're considered as grannies in the world of blogging when we're past our late 20es ;-)

  8. Marlene, I think it was so awesome that you were invited! You are so lucky! What an experience! Even if it was a brief one. So sorry about the train and how those other bloggers responded. How rude! I know plenty of bloggers that have children. Jennifer Lopez brought her daughter to Karl Lagerfeld's fashion show. I think it's a wonderful experience for little girls. Well, I'm glad you had a great time and Lil L did too. The food looked great and I'm chuckling at her comment. She keeps getting better & better. HaHaHa

  11. How amazing Marlene, I can't think of a better blogger for them to invite! I love that you took Lil L with you! Did you dress up so you both matched a little? And yes, you're fired for not taking a single pic of your outfit. I was waiting for it all week on instagram too!
