It's not even officially winter and the temperature has already dipped well below 0˚C.  If I were a proper style blogger, I'd probably sacked myself ages ago. Looking chic is secondary to staying warm. At this present moment, with gusty cold wind nearly blowing my socks off and the rapidly plummeting temperature, the Michelin man is starting to look pretty attractive. You know the saying? If you're hungry, everything tastes good? Well, the same rule applies to being cold.

I've sprayed a light waterproof coating on my wedge trainers so that I can stomp away in the puddles. I'm relying on my heavyweight coat from Gloverall, a quintessential British company who has been making their trademark duffle design with buffalo horn toggle fastening since the 50s. They're one of the rare companies that still produce and make all their clothes here in England using Italian blend wool. Boden does an incredible version for little kids at a reduced and amazing price.

Lately, I can't seem to get enough of cable knit jumpers. I've managed to find a stash of them, all 100% cotton and surprisingly fantastic quality at no more than £30. Bargain. I've managed to convert my friend, Christy to Isabel Marant clothes. And A.P.C. And Maje. And Sandro....... We were fortunate enough to nab her an Etoile Isabel Marant parka just like mine from a sample sale. Lucky girl. Never said I was a good influence to the teens and young adults.

  1. Fab photos - and I'm loving both outfits. Dropping serious hints for a real LV stole this Christmas. I wear my 'pretend' one so much. Avx

  2. Duffle coats are surely winter best friends , providing they are teamed with a comfy knit !
Like your friend's sweater and its motto ! It seems sweaters are back on the streetstyle front line as when we were teenagers !!

  3. I'm jealous of the weather you are describing! It is going to be 40 degrees here tomorrow! Much easier to be stylish in the cold then it is in the heat... how to make sweat patches look chic?

  4. You both look fantastic! Love your stole. It's starting to get really cold here too. I'm with you on bundling up over style when the temps drop low enough. I have a puffy coat that makes me look like a blimp but it keeps me warm!

  5. Oh I am lusting after that 'in books we trust' sweatshirt, I'm also on the hunt for a big cream cable knit, how can I have gone all these years without one?

  6. Love how you both put your looks together! I'm after a short black coat and never thought of a duffle style before now. I don't think you can go wrong with a cable knit, such a lovely classic all year round..in UK at least :-) It's way too cold for me so I've brought out the cashmere stole and knee boots already!

  7. Love the cold weather looks! I'm also craving a pile of cable knit jumpers in all sorts of neutrals!!

  8. LOVE the duffle coat - I always have liked them - I had a very sensible grey one for school years ago that must have seemed like it cost an arm and a leg to my Mum and Dad. You are a very bad influence - a bit worried now that you'll enable me to justify more 'higher end' stuff:)!

  9. I'm thinking I should sack myself too as keeping warm is a huge priority of mine! The wind chill factor has been horrendous today!

  10. You are both layered against the elements but still looking hip at the same time! :) Both of you look great! I really like your coat and her parka is too cool! :)

  11. You both look lovely! Staying warm is a priority. I love that you both still look polished:)

I get cold so fast and my body temp tends to be a bit low so I'm always layered with extra warm socks that stimulate circulation when winter hits. Gotta stay warm!

The weather has been so erratic here- Thanksgiving and last Friday felt like a dream and were very Spring like. Still hasn't gotten nearly as cold as it should be for November.

  12. Style gives way to staying warm as far as I'm concerned as well but strategic layering usually keeps me from looking too horrid and hats are a must for me. I think you and Christy both did a pretty good job with keeping chic and warm.

  14. I love the cable knit jumper. Apart from Mango, where else have you found them? Under £30 and 100% cotton is exactly what I'm looking for!

  15. Great look and practical too. You are a bad influence but I bet Christy didn't take much influencing at all did she? Yes it's bitter at the moment - it won't be long before I get the padded coat out and that will be all fashion cred gone.

    1. It was the only small sized utility jacket left in a small size. She got it for far cheaper than what I'd paid for mine. Lucky girl!

  17. The layering of your outfit is spot-on! I like the mix of the leopard scarf and cable knit. I can't seem to find a proper knit like that but I'll drop by Mango later to check.
Your friend's APC sweater is so cool, I missed the opportunity to get it when it was available but it's been in the back of my mind ever since.

  18. You look lovely! Can I ask how you tied your scarf? I have the same one and manage to tie it only one way the whole time - it gets boring - thank you!

  19. You both look fab, and not even close to the Michelin man!! I love that you borrowed the bag from the Mr! So cool M! And I must have been under a rock - LOVE that IM utility jacket - haven't seen it before!

  20. I feel the same about the cold. I have all sorts of good intentions in looking good and dressing well but when it's actually freezing cold, I just layer anything I can get my hands on.

  23. Hi - Love your duffle coat but the ASOS link shows the coat with tan color fastener. Do you have a link that sell the same color fastener as the coat, like yours. Just moved to NY and desperately looking for the right gear for the winter. Love your blog and double thanks for your sensible sharing on the www.
