Trying to Lose Weight

Once upon a time, there were three ladies who realized that their metabolic rate had come to a screeching halt. They decided to embark on a quest to increase activity in order to reduce jiggly bits. You know the excess lard fat blubber meaty bits around the chin, tummy, thighs..... yeah, those.

So what better way to exercise than to do it in a team.  Go team spirit! Y'know, be accountable to others as a motivation to remove my rear end from the chair (after having grown roots and sprouted leaves) when I don't feel like exerting myself or get sweaty.

So the three ladies set off for a walk along the meadows, river and ruins. And we chatted. And chatted. And chatted. My personal trainer once told me....."Marlene, if you can walk and talk, you're not walking fast enough". That's the cue for shut up and get going. Yeah, she was a pretty tough lady. I was scared s**tless of her.

Pretty soon, we came to a cafe. I mean, we've done 40 minutes of exercise (!). This is serious stuff. I'm not kidding. We'd burned off a total of 10 calories between the 3 of us. By exercising our jaw. So refreshments were definitely required to quench our parched throats and nourish our empty stomachs. We peered into the patisserie and all common sense left us. How could one not succumb to that pear and blueberry tart? Surely, I'd exercised long enough to reward myself with a pastry and a skinny latte (to alleviate my guilt).

I've decided to start dieting next week. I promise. Swear on my bible. Pinky swear.

  1. Last night me and a couple of friends jogged about 4 miles, then proceeded to a late night supper of calorie count I can't think about. We've decided the next time we meet for a run we're only bringing enough money for a bottle of water.

  2. You are too funny! I have a constant battle with my tummy. That's my gauge, if it's in check then the rest of my jiggly bits are too.
Can we join you in a virtual team? Just to give extra support should it be needed - I'll bring my own pastry? :-)

  3. Having fitness buddies can make this process more fun and good on you for taking this on. I'm so envious of the lovely sights you get to see on your walks!

  5. You are hilarious! Want a workout? Navigate HK with a stroller (as you know!). Tone your arms by lugging it (child included) up and down stairs.... ;)

Delightful pictures as usual - thank you for sharing!!!

    1. Uh no.... No way in hell would I ever attempt to push a stroller down the streets of Hong Kong. Hubs got sick from the exertion and I've never been more tired in my life after a week in HK. No idea how you've survived this long.

  10. Lol you are so cute! Friends definitely help with the motivation, if you don't spend the whole time chatting. Good luck girls, and for the record, I think you look gorgeous as you are

  11. Ha ha ha ha..... 1st of all you have NO jiggly bits I'm sure of it and 2nd, you gals need to get out of town! The gorgeous little cafes filled with treats are far too tempting and will more often than not be at the end of your exercise. All roads leads to the cafe's in the UK :) Well my roads always did! I think it's great that you've found some friends to walk/chat (exercise) with. What a motivational way to get moving. I promise not to send you any Fortum & Mason fudge for Christmas :)

  14. The pear and berry tart looks surreal!!! OMG i would give up my lunch just to eat that. You ladies may have to change an exercising route because this way is too dangerous and can severely ruin your diet. Exercise is hard, i gave up but paid more attention to portion and what i eat now..ha.

  16. Haha, omg. I love the way you write! I think exercising for 40 minutes definitely warrants a pear and blueberry tart! :)

  21. Hahaha you are such a witty writer. Especially loved how you started off this post with an image essentially representing death. Hilarious. Hope you're self motivation is better than mine. I've been trying to get off my butt to exercise ever since I had my first kid some two years ago.

  23. Too funny :) "We'd burned off a total of 10 calories between the 3 of us. By exercising our jaw." LoL.
I've been finding it hard to stick to a gym/exercise routine. Lately, I'm coming up with all kinds of excuses to avoid doing the 5min walk to the gym (yes, my gym is literally 5 min away from my flat). It's either too cold, too dark, too rainy, too sunny... Oh, I've to be a better, more disciplined girl :(

  24. That gorgeous looking tart has fruit in it! Fruit = healthy. And the latte... that has milk. Entirely necessary for us women for bone density. So... a well balanced meal as far as I'm concerned ; )
