London Designers at Matches Fashion

Monday 17 September 2012
Thank you all for the wonderful feedback and input to Wednesday's post . I decided to go with the unanimous vote - the Halogen Bianca Wedges. The ankle straps are in vogue at the moment. I've also found the extra support to be particularly helpful as the straps hold my feet in place. Furthermore, the mid heel wedges will be comfortable enough for me to run around all day without having to swap to flats. Thank you!

I was honored when the lovely Simone from Matches Fashion invited me along to their party last Friday to view the current collections from London designers. I'm a creature of habit and have a tunnel vision when I'm shopping for clothes. I hardly ever venture out of my favorite French designers rut so it was an eye-opening experience to see the clothes up close.

Most bloggers are hermits who only emerge out of our holes during social gatherings or work. I ran into Nora of Confashions from Kuwait who flew in for the weekend just for the London Fashion Week. I couldn't help admiring her ingenious camera strap made out of an unused designer scarf. Of course, being the purse addict that I am, I just had to check out the Celine Trio bag she was wearing.

I'm fussy about dresses. The fit, construction and cut have to be just right. I like my upper arms covered, the prints on my dresses to be bold yet not overpowering and most importantly, flattering without restricting my movements. I swear by my stash of Karen Walker dresses but these ones by Jonathan Saunders tick all the right boxes too.

  4. I hope you had fun, it looked like a wonderful event to attend. I adore the Erdem dress you picked out. These days I'm leaning more towards dresses with sleeves too. Hope you had a wonderful weekend lovely.

  5. What a cool party!! Your pictures really bring us there. Love the one of the shoes with the wooden floor and, of course, the champagne! :) It must have been a memorable event.

OT - but I just clicked on "Naughty Corner" when I saw the link at the bottom. I'd never read that one. Just make a sandwhich of that kid. She is delicious!!! Sooo adorable.

    1. I meant to get a friend to take a quick snapshot of me but I completely forgot. Unlike the glamorous ladies here, I was in my comfy boyfriend jeans, Rag & Bone tailored blazer and wedges.

  9. Aaah - Maria asked the question that I wanted to know about what you wore to such an event. My other question is - how do you get on the invite list?

  10. I'm fervently living vicariously through blogs and other fashion websites for LFW (like I did for NYFW), so I love this post! I love the splash of the structured, bold prints and colors--it's very reminiscent, at least, to me, of 1960s England. And that looks like such an awesome event; I really love your outfit!

  12. So much to like in this post (as usual!)... so, let's start with the camera strap - ingenious! totally just made a DSLR a cool accessory. The Jonathon Saunders dresses are gorgeous - those silhouettes are so timeless. The multicolored fur vest made me laugh out loud...

  13. Can I whisper into your ear that I ordered #3 too? Cant wait for it to arrive and hope it fits! I have been trying to locate the LV shoes that Sofia first collaborated with LV but it is near impossible to track one down in my size. Now with these, I need to tone those calves..

    Thanks for recommending Marlene!

  14. Gorgeous shots! And good to know you ordered the Bianca wedges. I'd like a pair but in non-patent leather. :P

  15. Oh you're very brave Marlene I'd have been terrified to go to a fash event, I'd look so out of place!
I really like those wooden stack heels that girl is wearing. Lovely!
Love Matches, have a rather nice collection of their boxes at home. The girls in the Marylebone shop are so lovely as well, really genuine.

  19. Now you have me obsessed with the Matches website and with Jonathon Saunders! - he's only just come to the US and I love his things. What a great evening, how glam. I am now stalking a Matches white suit that's on sale, AmcQ, am trying to kid myself I'll get loads of wear from it....

    1. I do it through Polyvore and then edit it on Photoshop. The image is then uploaded via Flickr. Feel free to ask if you're unsure of the steps.
