Review: Sam Edelman Trina Sandals

Friday 15 June 2012

I've been desperately looking for a pair of comfortable low to medium heeled sandals for quite sometime now.  I don't own a single pair. Nada. Zilch. Those of us with smaller than average size feet (US 4  EU 34  UK 1 or smaller) have little options out there so finding a pair that not only fit but are comfortable and affordable is comparable to looking for a needle in the haystack. Despite putting a list together in a previous post (click here), none could be found in my size.

I think the hubs was getting pretty sick and tired of listening to me moan incessantly about being completely shoe-less this summer. Okay, so that's stretching the truth a liiiiitle far seeing that I own approximately 7 pairs of flats. But flats aren't the same as heels, right? It's like comparing apples with pears.

After reading your comments and reviews, I decided on Sam Edelman Trina low heeled sandals. I was thrilled when I found a pair of Sam Edelman Trina in US size 5 but filled with trepidation as it IS a size bigger. Most stores, if not all, stock size (US) 6 and upwards here in the UK. I had to order a pair of Trinas from the US. The next step was to locate a store that ship will internationally. Enter Nordstrom.  I've bought from Nordies before when I was in the US. Ordering online from them even from the UK was a breeze. The shipping cost was reasonable. Despite having to fork out a little for duty, the total worked out to be less than the retail price here.

The Trinas are sturdy and pretty well made considering the price. I wore them out on a particularly busy day where I had errands as well as having to shepherd kids from one place to the next on foot. I live in a town where driving is a nightmare so everyone walks everywhere. The stacked heel is perfect on cobbled lanes. The cushioned insole makes a difference if you intend to do quite a bit of walking. I like the wide straps because they don't dig into the skin unlike narrow ones that truly hurt after a while. I love the fact that there's a piece of leather under the buckle for the very same reason. I have bunions and flat feet so it can be a pain finding something to accommodate these flaws.

I could do with half a size down but Sam Edelman doesn't do half sizes. Thankfully, the strap is of medium width so that stops my feet from slipping forward and the buckle holds them firm. Most importantly, I don't have to break them in before wearing the Trinas out. They're available in nude, whiskey and black. For those who live in the US, it's actually cheaper in Zappos. I like them so much that I'm thinking of ordering another pair in black later in the year. The Trina sandals are also available here in the UK.

  2. I'm so glad that the Trinas worked out for you! They are my favorite pair of shoes right now and I don't think I'll ever buy another pair of sandals again--they're just that comfortable!

  9. OOh, you always have the most edible things on your blog! The touch of metallic with the camel-beige is gorgeous! I love these shoes - also love that they are not completely flat which seems to hurt my feet. Should I buy another honey coloured pair of sandals? (I tend to buy the same thing over and over)

    1. Hi Marta

Thank you for leaving such a thoughtful comment. Much appreciated. You've actually reminded me to add a link on my blog to the store. I accidentally deleted the banner (for the store) recently when I was changing the blog layout. I've created a new page on the top tab called "My Store". BTW, I wanted to email you but unfortunately, your blogger profile is private. Hope you hear from you soon. Thank you again for taking the time to visit my blog.

  17. Hola ! Thanks for sharing another great sandal , like a lemming I have ordered them in Whiskey [ size 8 too] Can't wait ...

I have the dreaded Kork Ease Ava and have only worn them once . I feel like I'm rolling around on board a ship in full swell . Just can't face wearing them again for walking around London as I'm a strider and love to race around at full tilt.
I love to bits my new ballet flats in grey suede with black trim, with a slightly raised rubbery sole .

    1. Estrella, I'd love to hear how they fit on you. Hmm...I haven't had that many great comments about the Kork Ease Ava. I guess it's just as well I couldn't find them in my size. Thankfully, these Trina sandals do the trick.

  22. Oh they are stunning, shoes are nightmare in summer all that bare footed rubbing, I'm usually a scuzzy patchwork of elastoplasts.

  23. Lovely sandals! Congrats on this great find! They look very comfortable indeed! I also think you need a black pair as well! :)

  24. Actually that pair of Sam is a healthy pair. A bit of heels is better than none, give a bit of arch. Ballet flats are comfy but for long hour use maybe not as good as this Sam pair. Great buy, Marlene, enjoy them!

  25. lovely sandals and very chic

  26. I love these sandals. I love buying heels but to be honest they are not the most practical shoes for everyday wear (at least for me). These Sam Edelman sandals look perfect!!

I only have one Dior gloss but that being said, I still prefer Chanel's glosses. I love the packaging, the texture and the scent. My favourites are the more pigmented glossimers because they make my lips look amazing under sunlight and the Rouge Allure gloss that has more colour payoff and last well on my lips.

  27. Seriously you have size 1 feet? That's so dinky! Oh but bunions, ouch. My friend has them really badly poor thing.

I really like those sandals, practical yet stylish, what more could you want? x

  29. This pair looks great too. I wish more shoes came in half sizes, so frustrating. I would get too impatient about doing the buckle on those each time! I'd probably try to squeeze my foot out with it still buckled up!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because the buckle is so large (lol) they're actually super easy to do up. It's faster to buckle them than to try to slip your foot in. However, I always slip my foot out when I take them off, never unbuckle them to take them off...

  30. Very nice choice! I saw these online. The only thing I was worried about was the "gold" heal. You know how some can come off cheap looking and scratch terribly?

  31. Ooh these are great!! I'll have to try them as I'm looking for something with a low heel. Have you tried Vince Camuto shoes? I was shoe shopping with a friend last week and she can never find shoes that fit her tiny feet. She's usually size 4 in US but Vince Camuto size 5 fit her perfectly.

  32. I got this same pair in black about a month or two months ago... And I cannot stop wearing them!!! :D They are fantastic, super comfortable, and I also am so glad I found them in size 5! :) Glad you're enjoying them.

  33. Marlene, how have these sandals held up? Would you still recommend them?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry for the late reply. I have no internet at the moment. Pfffffftttt. They hold up really well actually. I only wear them in summer so they don't get tons of wear in general. The leather straps don't rub against my skin when the weather's particularly hot so no blister. Yay! Buy them on sale though. They're often discounted by at least 40-50%.
