I took my mother who's visiting from New Zealand on her long awaited trip to London to shop to her heart's content. We started off on King's Rd in Chelsea and slowly made our way to Knightsbridge for the obligatory visit to Harrod's, zipping through the expensive Bond Streets (Old and New) where we were pounced on by an overzealous security guard for daring to take a photo of Longchamp's window display and finally arriving at Oxford St.

LV
At Louis Vuitton, available here. One of the rare LVs I've seen without logos. LOVE the scrumptious leather and simple design.

Shopping is a wonderful exercise for the eyes and body. We left London completely over-stimulated by the endless array of gorgeous clothes and bags which we oohed and aahed over. So, what's this week's jackpot worth again?

We wouldn't have survived the trip without many pit stops to fill our hungry tummies. I've noticed that the occasions that I've been completely bowled over by the quality of the food, it was almost always at super duper cheap restaurants or bistros. Perhaps I should say that the cheaper the food, the better it tastes. Or maybe I'm just a cheap date.

I stumbled upon Oriental Canteen many years ago while trying to locate a store on my GPS. Where else can you get an authentic Malaysian meal with a drink for less than £6? The Wat Dan Hor (flat rice noodles with egg sauce) was the best I've ever had. The sauce is tasty with the right amount of the smoky flavor that one can only achieve from an incredibly hot wok. And the price? £5.50! A can of coke will set you back 0.60 pence. Unbelievable. It's set in the heart of one of the most expensive piece of real estate in London - South Kensington.

I was given a voucher by Fortnum & Mason to their Parlour restaurant. Thankfully, I'd booked a few days earlier as the queue was pretty long when we arrived. The food was pretty average and certainly not good value for money. The Black Forest cake was too dry. However, the service that I'd received was exceptional.

  1. Oh my goodness! Food & Fashion, my 2 most favourite things! I love the heels, bag (agree about the lack of logos and monogram) and ALL the food looks just yummy! Will definately visit next time I'm in town.

    1. It has been a while since I've seen a LV bag devoid of logos. There's certainly tons to see in London.

    1. My favorite restaurants in Italy are those that don't look all that great and only locals hang out there. Cheap and good.

  11. To borrow a phrase from my Southern counterparts "Oh my word!" my dear you have the golden trifecta here (Day with mom) (Shopping) (Food) I want to say it Just can't get better but the fact that you are doing this all in London puts it over the top. Oh don't you just hate the snooty security/employees preventing you from taking a measly photo as if you're stealing merchandise or something ... Ridiculous!! :)

    1. The security guard made me delete every single photo of the window display in front of him. Why display it in a public place for all to see? Besides, I was standing on the public sidewalk. Bizarre.

  15. Oh my..YUM..YUM..and YUM...who can cure my Asian food addiction?! I want to gobble everything down right now. It is very difficult to find "good" Chinese restaurants here ehere i live. Most taste like junk and the quality of meat/veggies is less than impressive. I was so hoping to eat good Chinese food when i was home but didnt have enough time. Very disappointing.

I bet a shopping trip with your mom was very fun. I realky enjoyed window shopping on your blog here. I wonder who would wear that pair of Prada shoes, they are fun to look at but i will pass. The LV bag is beautiful, very uncommon- i likee!!

    1. Up until 1.5 years ago, we barely have a single authentic Asian restaurant. Luckily, there's one fantastic Thai in town. The rest are as you've said...fake Asian food. I like the LV bag too. I'm sure it comes with a hefty price tag.

  16. We're going to the British Design exhibition at the V&A soon and never know of restaurants over there as it's not our 'hood so I'm definitely going to try the Oriental Canteen as it looks fab. Thanks for the recommendation!

  17. This food is making my mouth water it all looks absolutley delicious - I still can't believe you can get meals as cheap as that in the UK (London no less). You can't even get anything for that cheap here in Aus. Can't wait to get to London :)

  20. I love how you've brought fashion, macaroons (because they are a category of their own!) and Asian cuisine together in this post. I haven't had a decent Macaroon in over a year!
