Thank you all for your insightful comments on the previous "uniform" and "Beauty from within" posts. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading them and gained a whole new perspective as well.

Recently, a friend asked where I'll be wearing the Chanel jacket to, I quipped, "school run". The poor thing. I think I gave her quite a shock. Perhaps my point of view is a little outlandish but ultimately, it is a jacket not a crown and will be treated as such. Rules can be stifling at times. After all, fashion is our creative outlet so why not wear what you want as long as you're comfortable with it?

Seeing that my lifestyle is rather casual, I will have to include my daily staple pants - the denim. As one of my readers, I-Ping said, just replace the jeans with a pair of black trousers and the outfits will be suitable for work.

A good friend of mine was curious and inquired about my monthly clothing expenditure. She was gobsmacked when I gave her a figure. "Is that all?!," she exclaimed. To give you an idea, the Comptoir des Cotonniers dress in the third photo cost £40 two years ago. The Ferragamo pumps were from a thrift shop reduced to £5. Basic tees and jeans from Uniqlo cost no more than £8 to £29 per piece. I'm not above buying secondhand clothes if they're in unworn or near new condition at a much reduced price. In fact, I nabbed my Hermes belt from a seller in France more than a decade ago for £60 and it's still going strong. Finally, I often recycle any unworn pieces to pay for new purchases. Is there such a term called being fashionably frugal?

  1. Oh my why did i missed your latest post about beauty from within? i love this kind of posts, nevertheless i'll go read it now and comment. i am so glad that more bloggers stop idolizing perfect looking models and celebrities and see the beauty from within.
as for your outfit, i can't believe that you find pieces thattttt affordable, why can't i ever find myself one??? i am so jealous now, maybe i should search more though. i love your hermes bag and chanel jacket, i wish i could buy them in a affordable price but i don't see that happening any time soon.
p.s i have a slightly similar post talking about how curvy women don't get featured oftenly in magazines unless they are some kind of super famous celebrities.
    mind you checking it out?

  2. Wow I am so impressed with the pairings and your frugal ways at gaining some of these items! I know I would be smiling from ear-to-ear if I had managed to get a Hermes belt for £60! Well done you! :) x

  3. Drooling over these pairings. And I definitely also try to recycle my clothes to pay for new acquisitions but somehow my purchases always wayyy exceed the money I get from selling old clothes... oops.

  4. I LOVE your blog and especially your pairings! Yes, if I had Chanel jacket I would figure out how I can incorporate the jacket into my everyday outfits. I was really inspired by your capsule closet post and have been trying (very hard) to minimalize my wardrobe as well. My dream is to really have a closet with just 20 pieces hanging from it...

    1. Thank you, Purumeh for the lovely compliment! Glad you like the blog. Despite my minimalist approach, I may still have a hard time reducing the number of clothes down to 20. But you know what, it's definitely doable. If I think back to my winter outfits, I could count the pieces I've used with two hands.

  5. Great outfits! I really love any outfit with denim--in fact, my jeans are the backbone of my wardrobe, and I cannot at all imagine my life without them, so anything I buy must go with my jeans (unless, of course, it's a dress) or else I won't buy them! I agree that a jacket should be treated as a jacket. There's really no point in owning something you love and never wear it out--particularly if you paid a lot for it. In my mind, the primary way an investment pays off is through being worn, so you're really doing yourself a disservice if you don't wear the things you buy!

  8. Hey, I got quoted: cool!
I'd totally wear the first two outfits, and am so admiring the Chanel. To be honest, I'm a pretty casual person and so the casual outfit (but with black trousers instead of jeans) is very similar to what I'd wear to work. You'd laugh: today I'm wearing black trousers, white T shirt, random grey jacket, Isabel Marant dicker-lookalikes, Hermes horn necklace and Hermes scarf. Hey, I'm sitting at a desk: no one looks at my feet!

  10. Fashionably frugal?! YESSSSS!!!! Classics bought second-hand (like your tdf Chanel jacket) are the smart woman's way to shop. IMO - you love your Chanel jacket all the more for the fact that it didn't set you back 5K. I love the pairings - esp with the dress. Wish I could see more of it.

I have two pairs of Hermes boots bought second hand (at different times) for a grand-total of $700 for both. Both were barely worn when they came to live with me. A friend commented that "I spent so much on Hermes" while wearing her store bought Prada boots. She was shocked to realize her new Pradas cost almost the same as my H boots together. (sticks tongue out)

  13. I love all of the pairings. I love that you "use" your expensive pieces instead of sitting them in the closet. To me, there's just no point of buying them unless you will use and enjoy them, right? And what an awesome deal on the H belt you scored!

  18. I loved reading this post!! It's like reading about myself :-D I'm an expert of finding really good deals when it comes to clothes and asseccories - and that's a good thing as I can put more into bags! ;-)
The Chanel jacket is perfect for almost every occasion and I'm literally drooling over your Hermes bag....

  19. Fashionably Frugal!! We all aim to do that - at least I do!! LOVE your three outfits, and I really like your thoughts on the jacket! Even though you got a good deal on it, it's better to wear it than let it sit in the wardrobe!! Otherwise, what's the point right?! I need to remember that about certain items in my closet too!

  22. "Smart casual" I love it. Who doesn't want to look smart:)

I love that you thrift, consign etc. You have such style. I adore all three pairings.

The Chanel jacket can be incorporated into almost any outfit. It reminds me of my mother's jackets- they withstand time so well.
