Interview with Hermes Kelly 28

Friday 13 January 2012

Out of all the bags I've ever owned, Kelly 28 holds a special place in my heart. She's not a stunning beauty but she has that special somethin' that grows on you and wham! Before you know it, you're in love. It took me a long time to find her. I was beyond thrilled when I saw her sitting there at a local consignment store 4.5 years ago. I could barely contain my excitement but my heart dropped when I saw the exorbitant price tag. It was crazy expensive. Well above retail. I was obsessed but not crazy so I handed Ms Kelly 28 back and slunked out of the store. A few weeks later, I called to check if Ms Kelly is still available. Whaddaya know, the owner was desperate to sell. How would you like it at 50% off? If they'd held a Grand Prix in Auckland, I would've won the race at the speed I drove to the store.

So, tell me about yourself?
I'm Ms Kelly 28cm. I'm made of togo. It's that fancy schmancy name Hermes calls baby calf. I'm scratchproof but not bulletproof and I smell better than Chanel No.5.

What's this about 28?
It just means that my ass measures 28cm. I don't have a big butt. You jealous?

In the world of supermodels, who do you think you look most similar to?
Kate Moss all the way. I'm smaller than others. I don't have those 4 corners sticking out like those Sellier ladies. Big show off all of them. I don't need Gisele's boobs to make it to the top of my profession. I've got a few veins, you humans call 'em wrinkles but perfect ain't beautiful.

What are those letters and numbers on your strap?
In my world, they're called tattoos. That letter F meant I was made in 2002 by artisan N20. He was such a hot dude. Man, you should've checked out his strong arms.

kelly28-1

You're a spacious little thing, aren't you?
Just cos I'm small doesn't mean I can't do my job. That owner of mine sure carries around a whole load of junk. You should've seen the size of her wallet.

I read that togo is a soft leather. Is that true?
I slouch. Just like my owner even though ALL her physiotherapists have told her to stand up straight. It's our DNA, man. We just can't stand up straight.

LMAOOOOOOO It was love at first sight! LMAOOOOOOOOOO This bag is gorgeous and the size is deceptive. I knew it held a lot but it HOLDS A LOT! Beautiful color and thank you for explaining the description. I never knew what all that scribble scrabble meant! YOU ARE the HERMES handbag lady! Peh is the CHANEL lady! LOL Ohhhh, I am covered when I start to buy.

  10. Marlene...this is my dream bag. Kelly 28!

I failed to score one during my Europe trip (everywhere else they tell me they have no Kelly to offer), one friend couldn't get for me in Europe, the other couldn't find in USA. More recently, another friend tried to put me on the waiting list and was told the waiting list had just closed the previous month. Sigh...

I'm contemplating if I should get it in Japan (heard its easier but much more exp?).
Anyways, my heart aches at the sight of your lovely bag...

    1. Chicology, I've seen a fair share of Kelly 32, 35 and 40 every now and then at the stores (though not in London) but so far, I've only ever sighted one Kelly 28 in Hong Kong DFS. I've been told in the past that it wasn't as popular as 32cm. The smaller sizes seem to be more readily available in Japan. It's a close enough journey for you to undertake. I've read that there's an abundance of Hermes Kellys and Birkins at H stores in Tokyo. I don't think they will be that much more than in Singapore.

  13. What a wonderful interview. I should add that the 28K seems from your pics to be like the Tardis: deceptively huge inside! Hang on, that description does not do her justice. Maybe pick a glamourous Doctor's assistant??

  14. This is the cutest thing! I was going to use my Bolide today but after reading this, I'm pulling out my big sister gold Kelly 32. I DO love that bag!

  16. I love GOLD and I love Kelly with shoulder strap [ is it called retourne?]
I've been popping into H all over London , wanting a gold picotin, Evelyn PM, Lindy 30 or Kelly . See I'm not fussy!
Today I decided that's it, no more ...so I bought a dreaded Mulberry bag . It's so easy, just go into store, choose and pay: plus in the Sale so cheaper !
However I chose black, then if that little gold Hermes turns up .....

    1. I love Kellys in Sellier design but sadly they just don't love me back. I don't know why it's ridiculously hard to find any bags in gold these days. I guess it's one of those colors that are so popular that they disappear before they managed to be displayed. Fingers crossed, you get one soon. Yes, the dreaded stupid waiting list....grrrr...

  18. Adorable interview! How did you ever think of this? :) Gold togo and/or clemence is my favorite leather/color combo of all. So elegant and versatile.
Miss Kelly is adorable. How did you ever stuff all that in the bag, though? I'm truly impressed!

    1. Maria, hahaha.... this is the result of being in a sugar coma while typing out a post. Believe it or not, there was room to spare after putting all these things inside the Kelly. I could even stuff a small water bottle inside!

  19. One day, when I can afford a hermes bag, it will be a Kelly. It was a love at first sight. I'm a shoe person and love shoes very much. Don't really care about handbag but if I do have to splurge, I'll splurge on this. <3

I REALLY want a Hermes bag one day.. The Kelly is gorgeous, but the first one has to be a Constance or a Birkin... :-)

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

That gold kelly is absolutely beautiful! I love the leather and how much use you get out of her! It just gives the bag more character!

And, BTW, what kind of camera is that in your bag?

    1. Sam, the camera is Panasonic Lumix LX3 which is the same model as its Leica version. Very sharp lenses and pretty small without paying Leica prices.
