It's hard to think of my youngest brother anything other than the bucktoothed nerdy little kid that used to shadow my steps (he's going to kill me for saying this). He once showed me his masterpiece which was drawn all over my exercise books. As it was close to my exams, I didn't appreciate the sheer amount of work I needed to re-copy everything I'd written. Needless to say, I didn't feel a lot of sisterly love for several months thereafter.
Due to our big age gap, I was often left to babysit him. His ever curious and rambuctious nature gave me grey hair well before I turned 20. Years later, we traveled together and had some of the craziest adventures which never fail to crack us up whenever we're in the mood to reminisce about old times.
I was so impressed with what he did with his garden. He steadfastly kept to his goal and spent a year working on his garden. This was the result.
Blueberries
Maize
It was wonderful feeling being able to just go out into the garden and snip some lettuce leaves for dinner
The kids wait anxiously for the strawberries to ripen. Needless to say, there's never enough strawberries to fill a bowl. They've been hovering around 3 remaining ones still hanging (just barely) on the plants.
Rosemary
The kids' favorite. We harvested just enough for our salad.
My sister's another keen gardener. As it is, she inherited the green thumb gene from my father. Unlike moi, who manage to kill any living plant including the cactus.
The kids were so enamored by the Monarch caterpillars found in my sister's garden
Here's another fat caterpillar furiously munching away at the leaf

Sam, the beagle. He's the culprit known to dig up young plants.
Excellent post and photos from the garden. It is nice to have green hands in the family.
ReplyDeleteWonderful and interesting blog. A pleasure to visit.
Thank you, David for your kind compliment. Likewise, I've learned a lot from reading your blog. It's a shame I didn't discover it earlier as it'd be lovely to visit some of the places in KK that you'd written about.
ReplyDeleteOH Sam!!! I've been wanting a beagle for AGES... Gorgeous photos as always!
ReplyDeleteq9y8, Sam eats EVERYTHING. I do mean EVERYTHING! He managed to sniff out the chocolate bars I hid under my pillows.
